Not RequiredCollins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development of embedded flight software for electric power distribution and conversion systems. This role is responsible for the full software development life cycle, including requirements, architecture and design, implementation, integration, testing, verification, and certification support.
The position involves working closely with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams to develop safety-critical aerospace software, primarily in C, while supporting compliance with DO-178B/C and Design Assurance Levels A–C. The engineer will also contribute to software reviews, certification activities, SOI audits, process improvement, and technical analysis involving timing, memory, and stack usage.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can work independently and collaboratively, document technical work clearly, troubleshoot complex software issues, and communicate effectively during internal and external technical reviews.
What You Will Do
Work in a team environment, including with remote team members, engaging in full life-cycle development (planning, requirements, design, verification, and certification/qualification) of electric power distribution and conversion systems, typically developed in C and certified to aerospace standards such as DO-178B/C and Design Assurance Levels A through C.
Participate in the Software Discipline Council to improve and adapt standard work and department practices.
Participate in and/or assist the Software Lead with Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits.
Measure and analyze software designs for equipment and products to ensure current and future business needs are met.
Build and implement procedures that support hardware and software product development and functions.
Operate equipment and computer systems for testing and software design purposes to facilitate operations and ensure established objectives are achieved.
Design, develop, document, test, and debug control and diagnostic systems that incorporate logical and mathematical solutions.
Work with the Software Lead to conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
Perform timing, memory, and stack-usage analyses.
Determine end-user needs by analyzing system capabilities and resolving issues related to program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.
Ensure hardware and software standards are met.
Design and implement procedures that support hardware and software product development and use.
May develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience oran Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
Qualifications We Prefer
Full life-cycle software development experience, from requirements analysis through hardware/software integration and testing.
Knowledge of software development processes.
Knowledge of Collins secondary power distribution products.
Knowledge of Collins products and suppliers is a plus.
Experience with Polarion, SVN, Telelogic Synergy, Telelogic Rational DOORS, and MATLAB.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong presentation and communication skills, with experience delivering information to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
