Everyday Essentials (EE) is a $100B+ business and one of the fastest-growing categories at Amazon — the household staples, health and personal care, grocery, and beauty products hundreds of millions of customers reorder. We're reinventing how customers discover, buy, and get more value from them, and we're looking for Software Development Engineers who want to build that future.

The EE Experiences organization builds the shopping experience for the products customers come back for most. Our charter is Progressive Discovery and Monetization: helping customers find better products for their needs, complete their baskets, and get more value on every essentials purchase — and giving the world's largest consumer brands new and effective ways to reach those customers and grow with Amazon. We build a durable, profitable business at the intersection of the two, on the surfaces customers use every day.

This is a space where the hardest problems don't have off-the-shelf answers. We're not polishing a solved product — we're inventing experiences that don't exist yet, and the decisions we make now shape a business with room to grow for years. You'll have the freedom to propose new ideas, prototype them, and ship them worldwide. Your work moves from whiteboard to production in front of a very large customer base, with visibility all the way to senior leadership.

We're an AI-first team, and that shows up in two ways. We use AI throughout how we build software, and we expect our engineers to keep learning and applying the latest tools to move faster and raise the quality bar. AI is also at the core of what we build — the intelligence that helps customers find the right product is a modeling and engineering problem we work on hand in hand with scientists. If you're curious about AI, learn quickly, and like using it to solve real customer problems while keeping a clear head about where it helps and where it doesn't, you'll fit right in.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and own software end to end — working backwards from the customer through design, code, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Take on ambiguous problems where the goal is clear but the path is not, bring clarity, and deliver simple solutions to hard problems.
- Partner closely with scientists, product managers, and designers to turn customer problems into products that ship worldwide.
- Use AI tools and modern engineering practices to build faster and at a higher bar of quality, and help the team level up how it uses them.
- Own operational excellence for what you build — monitor it, respond when issues arise, and keep improving the customer and partner experience.
- Raise the technical bar through code reviews, mentoring, and hiring for the best talent.

A day in the life
Most days start with the customer problem in front of you: how to help someone find a better everyday-essentials product, or fill their basket faster. You dig into data, sketch a design, and talk it through with product managers and scientists before writing any code. By the afternoon you might be prototyping an idea that didn't exist yesterday, reviewing a teammate's change, or debugging something in production. Because so much here is new, you won't just pick up tickets. You'll help decide what to build, push for the approach you believe in, and see your work reach customers in weeks, not quarters.

About the team
Our team owns how customers discover and buy the everyday essentials they rely on — and how the brands behind those products reach them. Our mission is to make restocking the things you need effortless, and to help customers find better options along the way. Day to day you'll work with fellow engineers and partner closely with product managers, designers, and scientists, who bring the customer and data insight that shapes what we build. We're a small, fast-moving group solving open-ended problems for hundreds of millions of shoppers — a place where you own problems end to end and your ideas reach customers fast.

Basic Qualifications:

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
