Your New Role

We are looking for a skilled WeldTechnician (Welding & Fabrication) to join our manufacturing team, playing a key role in the welding, fabrication and finishing of car bodies and sub-assemblies for our world-class rail vehicles. This is a hands-on role where quality, safety and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything you do.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, you'll use your expertise to carry out welding activities, inspect your own work, solve problems and help ensure we deliver exceptional products to our customers. You'll also have opportunities to support and develop others, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out MIG and/or TIG welding activities in line with approved welding procedures and specifications.

  • Fabricate and assemble car body components and sub-assemblies to exacting quality standards.

  • Complete pre- and post-weld inspections and take full ownership of weld quality.

  • Perform weld repairs, weld finishing and distortion control activities.

  • Use calibration and correction techniques, including cold and hot calibration methods where required.

  • Safely move car body panels and prepare weld surfaces for production activities.

  • Accurately complete weld documentation and production records.

  • Identify, investigate and resolve quality issues, working closely with Engineering and Quality teams.

  • Promote best practice, support training activities and share technical knowledge with colleagues.

  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, housekeeping and environmental compliance.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen and 5S activities.

  • Deputise for the Section Leader when required.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical welding expertise with a proactive, team-focused approach.

Essential

  • Proven experience performing a range of welding and fabrication activities, including coded MIG or TIG welding.

  • Valid MIG or TIG coded welding qualification.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a welding environment.

  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions and solve technical problems.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working successfully within a team environment.

  • Flexible approach to work, including shift working where required.

  • A positive, "can-do" attitude and willingness to support colleagues across wider functions.

  • Ability to learn new skills and support the training and development of others.

Desirable

  • Experience welding aluminium.

  • Lifting qualifications.

  • Train-the-Trainer qualification or previous experience delivering training.
