The Actuarial Analyst 2, Analytics/Forecasting analyzes and forecasts financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions. Establishes metrics, provides data analyses, and works directly to support business intelligence. Evaluates industry, economic, financial, and market trends to forecast the organization's short, medium and long-term financial and competitive position. The Actuarial Analyst 2, Analytics/Forecasting work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.

The Actuarial Analyst 2, Analytics/Forecasting supports Humana’s Medicaid actuarial analytics capabilities by analyzing healthcare data, maintaining actuarial models and reporting tools, evaluating emerging cost and utilization experience, and communicating findings to business partners. The analyst may support data and reporting functions, actuarial modeling, emerging-experience analysis, claims trend analytics, or market-focused trend reviews. This role provides opportunities to build actuarial, analytical, and business skills while developing expertise in healthcare cost trends, emerging experience analysis, and Medicaid decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze healthcare claims, membership, authorization, financial, and other relevant data to evaluate medical cost, utilization, unit cost, and emerging experience.

  • Investigate emerging cost and utilization patterns, identify key drivers, and summarize findings for actuarial and business partners.

  • Prepare clear summaries, visualizations, and presentation materials that explain analytical findings, assumptions, limitations, and business implications.

  • Collaborate with actuarial, finance, clinical, market, operations, and technology partners to understand business questions and support analytical needs.

  • Investigate data anomalies, perform root-cause analysis, and work with business and technology partners to resolve identified issues.

  • Support the development, maintenance, validation, and enhancement of actuarial models, datasets, reports, and analytical tools.

  • Develop and maintain processes and controls that support reliable data, models, reporting, and recurring analytical deliverables.

  • Maintain documentation of data sources, business rules, methodologies, assumptions, controls, and recurring processes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and standardize data, modeling, reporting, and quality-control processes.

  • Apply actuarial and analytical methods to assignments of increasing complexity, using sound judgment and seeking guidance when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, data science, or another related quantitative field

  • Successful completion of at least 3 actuarial exams

  • Meets requirements for Humana's Actuarial Professional Development Program (APDP)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated with professionalism and timely follow-through

  • Experience analyzing data using tools such as Excel, SQL, SAS, Python, R, Power BI, or similar technologies

  • Prior actuarial, healthcare, insurance, financial, or related analytical experience

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with healthcare claims, membership, authorization, or financial data

  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or managed care

  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, models, or presentation materials

  • Demonstrated interest in medical-cost analytics, forecasting, data quality, or emerging experience

Work Hours: Typical business hours are Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week-- some flexibility might be possible, depending on business needs.

Interview Format 

As part of our hiring process, we will be using on-demand technology provided by Hire Vue, a third-party vendor. This technology provides our team of recruiters and hiring managers with an enhanced method for decision-making through on-demand candidate assessments.

If you are selected to move forward from your application prescreen, you will receive correspondence inviting you to participate in an on-demand assessment with pre-determined questions. You should anticipate the assessment to take approximately 10-15 minutes.

Your on-demand assessment will be reviewed, and you will subsequently be informed if you will be moving forward to next round of interviews.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

 

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$80,900 - $110,300 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
