The Amazon Purchase Experience team is seeking a full stack software development engineer with a passion for engineering excellence. We offer you the opportunity to deliver and lead high visibility & high-impact innovation for customers across the Cart application services in Amazon. You will play a pivotal role in crafting solutions that profoundly enhance the shopping experience, handling vast data volumes, delivering lightning-fast response times, and simplifying the cart process to a remarkable degree. You must understand the importance of quality and testability in regards to the long term health and operational excellence of the Amazon eco system and you will be expected to drive improvements to current and future systems in these areas. You will contribute to both funcational and non-functional aspects of the application in the form of enhacing customer experience, improving latency, performance, and business investigations. You will learn and grow by working closely with senior engineers across our organisation.
The ideal candidate will have excellent technical design, problem solving, Computer Science fundamentals, and communication skills. The candidate should be comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels. The ability to work backwards and think from a customer perspective is crucial as the ideal candidate is expected to contribute to the product vision in addition to the technical design and implementation.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and develop full-stack solutions for Post Add to Cart and Cart services, considering scalability, performance, and reliability across multi-tiered distributed systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and operations to understand customer needs and translate them into technical implementations
- Investigate and optimize system performance, latency, and resource utilization through data-driven analysis and experimentation
- Contribute to code quality and system testability by establishing best practices, conducting thorough code reviews, and identifying areas for improvement
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and participate actively in design and architecture discussions
A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer on our team, you'll work on full-stack solutions that handle massive transaction volumes while maintaining lightning-fast response times. Your day might include collaborating with product and design partners to understand customer pain points in the post add to cart experiences, writing and reviewing code for distributed systems that process millions of requests, investigating performance bottlenecks to optimize latency, and participating in design discussions with engineers across our organization. You'll balance building new features with strengthening the foundational systems that keep our services reliable and resilient. Beyond coding, you'll contribute to our culture of operational excellence by identifying opportunities to improve system quality, testability, and long-term health.

Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
