Job Description
Ring is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join the Cloud Connectivity organization in Toronto, where you'll build and deliver large-scale, customer-facing platforms that power how millions of Ring devices and services work together.
You'll design and implement systems that process high-throughput real-time data and integrate with a broad ecosystem of connected devices. You'll collaborate across Ring's cloud, firmware, science, and product organizations to solve hard problems in distributed systems and real-time data processing at scale.
This role offers the opportunity to build new product experiences from the ground up, working with a Toronto-based team that values technical ownership, iterative delivery, AI-first development practices, and engineering excellence.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement large-scale, customer-facing services supporting millions of Ring devices with strict availability and latency requirements
- Leverage AI-first development practices across the engineering lifecycle — including design, code generation, testing, code review, and debugging
- Build extensible services and data models that serve as the foundation for Ring's device connectivity and internal service ecosystem
- Architect fault-tolerant distributed systems using AWS services, ensuring scalability from thousands to millions of concurrent operations
- Partner with cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions that enhance customer experience and security
- Drive technical excellence and establish engineering best practices including monitoring, alerting, and automated testing
- Contribute to technical decision-making that influences Ring's connected home platform architecture and future product capabilities
About the team
Ring Cloud Connectivity builds the foundational platforms and services that power how Ring devices connect, communicate, coordinate, and deliver experiences to customers. The team partners across Ring's cloud services, firmware, science, and product organizations to deliver customer experiences at scale. We are a Toronto-based team that values technical ownership, iterative delivery, and leveraging AI-first development to maximize engineering impact.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Experience with AI-first development practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience with one or more relevant front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or similar

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
