Senior Windows Virtualization and Infrastructure Operations Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking an expert-level Senior Windows, Virtualization and Infrastructure Operations Engineer to manage, optimize, secure, and continuously improve enterprise infrastructure platforms.
The role will provide deep technical ownership across Windows Server, VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, HPE server and blade environments, HPE OneView, HPE SimpliVity, Windows clustering, patch management, vulnerability remediation, firmware updates, storage, backup, monitoring, and infrastructure automation. The successful candidate will lead complex technical troubleshooting, major incident response, Change and Problem Management, Root Cause Analysis, capacity planning, proactive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role will work closely with Engineering teams and end users to deliver reliable and effective infrastructure services, while also overseeing Managed Service Providers to ensure consistent service quality, strong operational governance, effective automation, and compliance with technical and security standards.
Responsibilities
Windows and Virtualization
- Administrate and support enterprise Windows Server environments across physical and virtual platforms,
- Manage VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi, vCenter, clusters, HA, DRS, vMotion, templates, snapshots, and virtual networking.
- Support Microsoft Hyper-V platforms, including Failover Clustering, Live Migration, CSV, virtual switches, and VM lifecycle management.
- Troubleshoot complex operating system, virtualization, networking, storage, performance, application dependency, and availability issues.
- Lead patching and vulnerability remediation for Windows servers, virtualization hosts, firmware, and infrastructure components in coordination with security teams and MSPs.
- Support HPE OneView, SimpliVity, ProLiant DL/BL servers, and BladeSystem c7000 environments, including hardware replacements, upgrades, vendor escalations, and lifecycle activities.
- Plan and execute firmware upgrades using validated compatibility matrices, implementation plans, maintenance windows, and rollback procedures.
- Provide technical leadership during major incidents, high-severity outages, service restoration, recovery activities, and on-call support.
- Drive Problem Management, root-cause analysis, permanent corrective actions, technical escalation, stakeholder communication, and accurate documentation.
- Develop automation and strengthen AIOps monitoring across Windows, VMware, Hyper-V, HPE, storage, backup, and clustering platforms.
- Monitor infrastructure utilization, performance, availability, capacity, growth trends, licensing, SAN/NAS, RAID, LUNs, datastores, multipathing, IOPS, latency, backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
- Review and govern MSP performance across incidents, changes, problems, patching, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, automation, service improvement, and accountability for outcomes.
- Support knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, domain controllers, replication, authentication, certificates, and access controls.
Education & Experience Recommended
• Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
• Typically has 12-15 years of work experience, preferably in computer programming languages, testing tools, or a related field.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator & Azure Administrator Associate or relevant Microsoft infrastructure certification.
- VMware Certified Professional — Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).
- HPE certifications covering ProLiant servers, HPE OneView, BladeSystem, or HPE SimpliVity.
- ITIL Foundation certification
- AWX automation-related certification.
Knowledge & Skills
Technical Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server administration, troubleshooting, hardening, performance analysis, and lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V, Failover Clustering, CSV, Live Migration, and virtual machine management.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Kerberos, LDAP, replication, certificates, and identity security.
- Advanced knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS, vMotion, clusters, snapshots, and virtual networking.
- Hands-on knowledge of HPE ProLiant DL/BL servers, c7000, HPE OneView, and HPE SimpliVity.
- Strong understanding of patch management, vulnerability remediation, firmware lifecycle management, and configuration compliance.
- Practical understanding of storage, SAN/NAS, RAID, datastores, multipathing, backup, restore, replication, and disaster recovery.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring, observability, event correlation, alert management, capacity management, and service health.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills, including automation, reporting, error handling, logging, testing, and remediation.
- Working knowledge of ITIL-based Incident, Major Incident, Change, Problem, and Configuration Management processes.
- Public Cloud Knowledge AWS, Azure
