In order to support the department Flight Management Systems, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for an

Intern for AI-based aircraft multi-agent pathfinding (d/f/m)

The department "Flight Management Systems" at Airbus Defence and Space is in charge of system design and development of avionics, in particular military and civil Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Flight Guidance functions. This covers manned aircraft and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) like Barracuda and Eurodrone, including automatic/autonomous operations of these unmanned aircraft.

In the past years, the achievements in various artificial intelligence fields have reached mainstream popularity. Despite this technology’s advantages, its adoption to Multi-agent Flying Systems has remained limited. We are looking for a creative intern who is whiling to explore, research and develop a novel multi-agent pathfinding algorithm. Methods could be ensembled policy strategy, population-based searches, model-based or model-free adaptive control. You will be working closely within our motivated and young team and you have the chance to learn agile software development, automated testing and modern software engineering considering quality and time.

Your location

The Airbus Manching site is a busy two-runway airdrome, where more than 5000 employees develop, build and flight-test state-of-the art military aircraft like Eurofighter, Tornado and future systems such as the Eurodrone and FCAS.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Research and develop algorithms for AI-based multi-agent pathfinding

  • Integrate the selected algorithm into our development environment.

 Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled Fulltime Master student (d/f/m) in Aeronautical Engineering / Mathematics / Computer Science or similar field of study

  • Relevant experience in Python or C++

  • Familiar with machine learning

  • Knowledge of either optimization or flight dynamics (principles of flight) would be a plus

  • Excellent team player

  • Fluent English skills
