Product Data Analyst (Internship)

Amsterdam, 5 months minimum

About our team

The Product Analytics team turns the multitude of data into insights and AB testing opportunities that can be used to build better digital products. We like getting our hands into the data, focusing on insights which drive actions and product improvements. We extract data and make sense of it using SQL, Python/R, Tableau/Adobe Analytics and quantitative techniques (such as regression, or statistical testing). You will be an integral part of our dynamic team of ±20 product analysts, located in our Amsterdam and London offices.

About the role

This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in measuring product feature performance and linking qualitative and quantitative data to optimize our products and understand user behavior. You'll work closely with experienced analysts and cross-functional teams, gaining invaluable skills in product analytics.

You will have your own projects (with all necessary help from our senior analysts), and hold 2 main responsibilities:

  • Strategic deep-dive analysis. Leveraging the multitude of data sources we have at our disposal. This can be for example: understanding the correlation between qualitative and quantitative usage data and how this can influence our product roadmaps
  • Featuring performance and success measurement. Collecting and analyzing usage data following our newest releases, setting success criteria, or identifying areas of improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Defining the right metrics.
    Use your deep knowledge of user behavior to define performance metrics with your stakeholders that align with user success and satisfaction. For new features apply your customer centricity and business knowledge to identify and define the key metrics to evaluate product success. Collaborate with business stakeholders to define product OKRs to ensure we are focusing our efforts effectively.
  • Measuring performance.
    Setting up dashboards and reporting to track performance. Building models to understand product performance and user behavior - ultimately quantifying and communicating these insights through product metrics. Reviewing user experience to ensure that the appropriate tagging and tracking is in place to improve our products. Creating product/user funnels to understand and represent user behaviour and engagement with our products. Uncovering opportunities for new features, and collaborating with the Product Manager to define, prototype (& evaluate experiment results) and scaling features & solutions.
  • Identifying and testing opportunities for improvements.
    Grounded in deep analysis of our datasets, generating hypotheses and validating them through online experimentation and AB testing. Then delivering these together with product managers, designers and engineers.
  • Supporting strategic decisions and roadmaps.
    Innovating and discovering new insights by diving deeply into the data, combining various sources (including database and web-analytics data sources) from across the business, to support decisions and resolve strategic questions. Planning and prioritizing with Product Managers. Helping them to understand which features could be built, quantifying the user and business impact, and communicating these recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled in a mathematics, science, engineering, economics, or business university degree;
  • Have experience in Data Analysis through academic projects, coursework, or previous internships;
  • Be proactive, 'can-do' mentality, hands-on attitude, able to take initiative;
  • Have good communication skills, across physical, cultural and language barriers;
  • Have following technical skills:
    • SQL and/or Python proficiency: basic understanding of SQL/Python and ability to write simple queries (through coursework or self study);
    • Web analytics. We use Adobe Analytics for our usage data gathering, so you will learn how to use this tool and how to analyze AA data;
    • Basic product knowledge: familiarity with basic concepts of product analytics, A/B testing, or web analytics, even if gained through coursework;
    • English is our working language so an advanced level of English is required.

Research shows that women and individuals from underrepresented groups often only apply for jobs if they meet all the qualifications. If you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
