About the Department

St Vincent’s ICU is an innovative, tertiary ICU in the heart of Melbourne and is next to the cafe-packed Gertrude St.  The ICU is funded for 15 ICU equivalent patients which allows up to 17 patients to be admitted at any time, with the flexibility to provide a combination of 1:1 and 1:2 nursing care, depending on patient acuity.  St Vincent’s ICU admits over 1700 patients per year of which 50% come from operating theatres, 20% from Emergency, 15% from wards and 15% from inter-hospital transfer.  The unit is supported by medical and surgical services that include cardiac surgery (contributing roughly 25% of ICU admissions) and neurosurgery.  Therapies provided to patients include invasive ventilation, cardiac support, haemofiltration and ECMO.

St Vincent’s ICU team strongly believe in continuous improvement, education, research, and optimisation of patient centred outcomes with the commitment to delivering exceptional care to patients and their families with kindness and compassion. We aim to deliver this service within a supportive and friendly environment for both ICU staff and our multi-disciplinary teams. Home - St Vincent's Melbourne ICU (stvincentsicu.com)
