Job Description Summary

Band 3

Minimum: $23,191.00
Mid Point: $33,052.00
Maximum: $42,913.00

Patrols building checking for fire, prowlers, vandalism, and other unusual activities. Some positions require certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with Section 23-6-430 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.

Minimum Requirements:

(Note: Additional requirements may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.)

A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety or security activities.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma and three years of experience in fire prevention, safety or security activities. Certification by the Department of Public Safety, in accordance with Section 23-6-430 of the 1976 South Carolina Code of Laws.

MUSC Physical Requirements:

(Note: The following descriptions are applicable to this section: Continuous - 6-8 hours per shift; Frequent - 2-6 hours per shift; Infrequent - 0-2 hours per shift)

Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time. (Continuous)
Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs, unassisted. (Infrequent)
Ability to lift, drag, pull persons to safety, weighing up to 300 lbs., assisted. (Infrequent)
Ability to hear and recognize various sounds within noisy background areas. (Continuous)
Ability to maintain 20/40 vision in both eyes, corrected. (Continuous)
Ability to climb stairs to the top floor of any building within the institution. (Infrequent)
Olfactory sense must be intact in order to smell unusual odors. (Continuous)
Ability to carry heavy objects, i.e. persons, a distance of 15 to 20 feet in emergency situations. (Infrequent)
Ability to engage in physical confrontations with suspected offenders. (Infrequent)
Ability to sit. (Infrequent)

Additional New Requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
Computer literacy.
Ability to work overtime as required.

Familiarity with the state, county and city laws of South Carolina, the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with the general public. Knowledge of methods of security in building and grounds.

10% Monitors alarms and CCTV, (closed circuit television). Essential
10% Performs duty of Public Safety Officer (non-arrest powers), assist supervisory personnel in peace and decorum in building and on grounds, Tickets unauthorized vehicles parked in areas reserved for emergency vehicles, loading zones, handicapped or decal required areas. Notifies supervisor or officer assigned to the areas if the vehicle is created a problem. Escorts persons as required. Detains suspicious persons loitering and notifies Dispatchers. Essential
