Job Description:

Position Summary:

This position will be part of the xEV Drive Unit team for Electric Vehicle products and will be responsible for providing Drive Unit (DU) analysis support for the manufacturing plant for both New Product Introduction and Mass Production activity. The DU analysis engineer position's overall requirements are to lead the analysis of customer returned Drive Units and complex internal failures. This includes developing and leading the test plan for the failed unit in collaboration with Quality QE’s/MFG and reporting results to the appropriate levels of management. The DU Analysis Engineer will work with other team members (Process Engineers, Test Engineers, Quality Engineers, SQ & QA Engineers, Maintenance, Technical Associates and Production (management and production floor personnel.)

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ME, EE, etc.) or Engineering Technology (MET, EET, etc.) + 2 years of related experience OR 6 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Proven knowledge of problem-solving tools, such as 5P, 5-why, DOE, FTA etc.…with strong aptitude toward root cause analysis

  • Proficiency interpreting technical drawings/specifications

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):

  • Work experience in automotive industry, with emphasis in electro/mechanical devices

  • Knowledge of EV components such as inverters and motors

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems such as IATF16949, PPAP, CAPA, NPI (New Product Introduction), APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, etc.

Essential to Job Functions – Physical and/or Mental Restrictions:

  • Ability to work for extended periods of time while sitting

  • Standing, walking, and bending for the duration of the workday

  • Ability to lift 35lbs from floor to a height of 4ft

  • Ability to push or pull pallet jack up to 450lbs

  • Visual ability to work accurately with detailed information and a computer screen

  • Ability to travel for business (Domestic and Overseas)

Software:

  • Intermediate experience required in Windows, MSWord, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • LabVIEW or other testing software

Description of Duties and Responsibilities % of Time Spent performing Duties

Provide Technical Support to daily production (analysis of production rejects) 50%

Set-Up, Perform, and Record Results of a Test Plan or Designed Experiment 20%

Provide technical support to Customer returns 10%

Develop analysis methods (implement analysis methods for new products) 5%

Maintain and Organize workspace 5%

Maintain Appropriate Records, analyze data, provide daily/monthly reports 5%

Perform Other Duties as Assigned 5%

Production and Location Start-up Duties:

  • Work within small team to develop manufacturing location and testing processes to support smooth mass production start-up of EV products.

  • Support Quality department with development and maturation of testing equipment

  • Development of testing fixtures and protocols for manufactured and supplied parts for mass production

  • Typical NPI duties as detailed by internal Astemo and customer requirements for start-up of new product/location

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Make sound business decisions, exercise good judgment and maintain high level of motivation

  • Maintain effectiveness in high visibility situations, handle multiple functions efficiently and ensure deadlines are met

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of organization needed

  • Confers with and prepares reports for upper management

  • Knowledge of quality assurance systems: Application of principles & procedures to daily activities to assure product quality.

  • Ability to read and understand customer drawings, specification and engineering standards.

  • Travel Required: 10~15% Domestic; 10~15% International (during project start-up phase)
