Are you ready to shape the future of medicine?  Join our Sanofi Canada team as Head of Communications Canada, where you will lead the development and implementation of Sanofi Canada’s external, internal, corporate, brand and crisis communications strategies and plans, including management of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, and overseeing communications activities for Sanofi Canada’s global business units.  

Main responsibilities: 

As Head of Communication Canada, you will lead a team of local communication professionals, and work collaboratively with U.S. and global teams to realize Sanofi’s Corporate Affairs value proposition by focusing on preserving and enhancing our corporate reputation, driving patient access to our brands, shaping and supporting the success of our pipeline, and investing in our people and capabilities. Additionally, you will oversee the development of strategic and cross-functional communications strategies that support Sanofi Canada marketed brands and business units.

The incumbent is also responsible for overseeing the design, implementation and assessment of internal communications strategic and tactical plans for the Canadian business. Additionally, the incumbent is the primary communication advisor to the Country Lead and his/her executive team, including the Canadian Country Council.

The person will also oversee the creation and implementation of a pan-Canadian Corporate Social Responsibility plan, in accordance and coordination with Global CSR plan.

External

  • Develop and implement a strategic corporate communications plan that reinforces the company’s heritage, strengths and opportunities to grow its reputation
  • In collaboration with the business units and the country council, identify synergies and opportunities in external communications in support of the corporate priorities
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with members of the media and other key stakeholders
  • Identify the external opportunities to positively establish Sanofi, its activities and achievements and policy issues through media channels or public events
  • Support the objectives of Public Affairs, Market Access and brand teams by defining and implementing communications strategies and plans with various stakeholders (patient associations, business groups, general public, governments, etc.)
  • Act as the strategic media relations, digital media and communications advisor with company executives
  • As required, act as the corporate spokesperson
  • Prepare executive external communications, including speeches
  • Manage CSR planning, donations and sponsorships as part of the CSR function
  • Represent the company, when possible, on an Innovative Medicines Canada relevant committee
  • Create crisis and issues preparedness strategies and plans in alignment with North American communications and Global communications policies and standards

Internal

  • Create communication platforms and key messaging to ensure alignment with Sanofi business strategies
  • Prepare/oversee communications for employees supporting the company’s  position on key issues, objectives, strategies, activities and related programs
  • Oversee and align internal communications channels and events (e.g., newsletter, intranet, town halls, functional small and large meetings/gatherings, etc.) engaging employees to foster a common culture around company programs, initiatives and brand activities
  • Develop the platforms and create the opportunities for promoting/strengthening the company culture
  • Create and launch engagement plans for Sanofi corporate branding ensuring alignment with global standards
  • Collaborate with North American and global communications colleagues on regional and global initiatives as warranted and serve as the voice for Sanofi Canada in N.A. communications forums

  

About you  

EDUCATION: Relevant University degree (eg. Bachelor’s of Communications, Journalism or Public Relations)

COMPETENCIES / EXPERIENCE

  • + 15 years of experience in communications, including in corporate reputation management, media relations and corporate social responsibility
  • + 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector - at a national level
  • Experience in leading a communications team and evolving with executive teams
  • Able to resolve problems and work well under pressure
  • Can work cross-functionally and in a matrixed organization to optimize results
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Internal employee communication experience
  • Relationship Building and Networking: must be an effective networker and communicator, capable of fostering trust and collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including the Canada Country Council
  • Leadership and Team Management: Provide clear direction, support, and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

LANGUAGES

Bilingual French and English, spoken and written is required - with ability to write about complex subjects.

TRAVEL is required in Canada and internationally
