Thank you for your interest in the BPT1 position at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) for 2025.

  • These positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). The rules for BPT1 eligibility and matching to all the hospitals in Victoria are governed by PMCV in conjunction with the Victorian Government funding body, Department of Health. 
  • To be eligible for an BPT1 position in Victoria you must be either a graduate of an Australian or New Zealand University or holder of the AMC Certificate AND an Australian permanent resident.  Refer to PMCV guidelines and website for full details.
  • The Referee Assessment process is managed via the PMCV website.

About the Role

SVHM has built a solid reputation in recent decades, as a leading health service for Basic Physician Training (BPT). As a BPT, you will have exposure to a wide range of general and specialty medicine areas, along with solid mentorship and structured educational support, including bespoke tutorials and lectures. 

SVHM provides a well- supported environment for trainees undertaking the RACP PREP program. The hospital is accredited as a level 3 hospital by the RACP and has a structured and comprehensive training program providing individual support for all trainees. SVHM has an outstanding reputation over many years for success in the RACP examinations.

You will:

  • Provide effective supervised day to day clinical management of both ambulatory and admitted patients
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement, including collection of data for audit purposes
  • Identify and understand the investigations relevant to a patient’s presenting problem, using investigation results appropriately to guide patient management

Please note that most HMOs will have a roster that includes rotations outside our Fitzroy campus. These may include rotations at Kew, Werribee, Swan Hill and Warrnambool Hospital.

Duration of appointment: 3rd Feb 2025 – 1st Feb 2026 (potential for longer contract)

Classifications for this position will range from HM12 – HM18 ($88,397.40  - $146,230.24per annum)

Selection Procedures

  • SVHM will conduct 15-20 minute personal interviews with shortlisted candidates prior to making offers. Interview requests will be sent to shortlisted candidates via email.
