Job Description

Workplace Status:

Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary work location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) team supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is a new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road!

The Role:

General Motors is looking for hardworking Sr. Software Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) to help us build innovative connectivity solutions for our new Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform. We are seeking people who can help us push the limits of vehicle technology.

As part of our team, you are responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our software in GM’s sophisticated line of vehicle technology. Our group delivers quality software for GM’s next generation connectivity and infotainment systems. We are looking for upbeat individuals who are passionate and have a desire to shape the automotive industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the performance and availability of software systems
  • Perform initial incident root cause analysis with engineers and implement proactive measures to prevent future incidents
  • Actively participate in technical discussions and deep dives
  • Collaborate with developers, suppliers, validation, execution, and IT teams to drive quality solutions
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze and provide inputs in architecture, infrastructure resources, observability to achieve reliability and scalability goals
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to conduct production readiness reviews, deployment, operation and refinement
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure data and observability tools are effectively integrated with other systems and processes
  • Continuously identifying opportunities for process improvement, implementing best practices, and driving initiatives to enhance the reliability and performance of software systems.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify, measure and monitor availability, latency and overall service health
  • Instill site reliability best practice through automation, data insights, and observability

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related software subject area
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems development
  • Exposure to module development process, product development, execution, systems engineering, systems integration, or validation
  • Experience that demonstrates strong technical leadership - able to comprehend complex systems and explain these systems to others.
  • Creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgment - able to deliver quality results with little supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of requirements, features, detailed designs, and delivery of production releases.
  • Ability to root cause issues, track and communicate corrective actions to multiple stakeholders
  • Good verbal, written and communication skills
  • Passion to learn new technologies

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • Master of Science Degree in an engineering field
  • Experience in GM production SW development process and Issue tracking systems
  • Proficiency in vehicle data communication systems (i.e. CAN, ETHERNET)
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Cellular, CAN, V2x simulators and test devices
  • Understanding of networking and software development in distributed systems
  • Connectivity experience (i.e. Telematics, Infotainment, Modules.), vehicle diagnostics
