Job Description

Work Arrangement

This role is hybrid, requiring the employee to be onsite an average of 3 days per week.

The Role

The Verification and Testing Systems group thrives on developing, deploying, and inventing new technology within Global Propulsion manufacturing process. Along with working on GM’s most advanced technology, the group has the luxury of working across multiple technology facilities within the Global Propulsion Center.  

General Purpose of Position is to support the execution of the Global Propulsion Testing Development Process from AFI through SORP (cradle to grave). Collaboratively work with a cross-functional team of engineers to refine the test process and then lead in the execution of the M&E and tooling procurement, installation, debug, start up and launch in the assembly plant(s). This team specifically works with the end of line testing for engine, transmission, electric drive unit, and electric motor manufacturing.

This role will actively support the GPS build events at the labs, pre-production facilities and assembly plants, such as Pontiac/Warren PPO, through development of the test processes, tooling, equipment and complementing quality planning tools, and support for problem solving activities. Other locations that may require support would be Romulus, MI; Toledo, OH; Silao, MX; and Ramos, MX.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead/support procurement of prototype test tooling and equipment and complementing installation and debug.  
  • Work collaboratively with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Area Leads and others to address build issues.
  • Support a cross-functional engineering team in the development and refinement of the production test process and the execution of the procurement of the assembly equipment & tooling and installation, debug, and launch.
    • Develop production assembly test processes, layout concepts, and continue with refinement as the process transitions to the Execution phase.
    • Lead in the development of the test SOR and complementing buy-off checklist.
    • Work with equipment supplier in the design, assembly and buy-off of a production-capable system.
    • Work with installation team in installation, debug and buy-off of equipment in the plant.
    • Support plant build events and document/resolve build issues.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 2+ years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Electrical Test Stand, Controls Experience, NVH Experience, Engine/Transmission/Electric Drive Unit Test, Battery, Power Inverter, Electric Motor Systems Knowledge
  • 2+ Years of professional experience managing vendors and project deliverables
  • Willingness to travel globally to production and lab facilities as required.
  • Bachelor Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience required.

What Will Give You A Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

  • End of line test experience, specifically in electric drive unit manufacturing.
  • Flashing experience in propulsion systems
  • Manufacturing experience in propulsion systems
