Job Description:

Position Title: Trainee - Anatomical Pathology

Employment Type: Full time Maximum Term [to 2 February 2025]

Hours per week: 38 Hours per week

Position Grade: Registrar

Position Summary: Two vacancies exist in the above unit for a highly motivated Trainee with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care.

The successful applicants will be expected to be able to develop appropriate knowledge and technical skills to fulfil the requirements of the RCPA for training in Anatomical Pathology and to become a competent Anatomical Pathologist. They will fulfil the service requirements of their department, including laboratory-based specimen handling, work-up and reporting of pathology cases, performance of hospital autopsies under appropriate supervision, contribution to the provision of advice to clinicians regarding Anatomical Pathology, notification and discussion of results with clinicians, attendance and participation in multidisciplinary and other meetings and conduct research.

The position is fulltime Monday to Friday with on call roster for overtime.

Selection Criteria

1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

2. Evidence of general registration and 24 months of clinical experience OR hold an Overseas Trained Specialist determination issued by the RCPA.

3. Demonstrated interest and/or previous experience in anatomical pathology and a commitment to acquiring necessary skills and knowledge in anatomical pathology to make progress along the RCPA training pathway is required.

4. Demonstrated participation in quality improvement initiatives, particularly those relevant to Anatomical Pathology.

5. Willingness to participate in teaching (e.g. medical students) and research activities under appropriate supervision.

6. Demonstrated experience in working in a multidisciplinary team environment, including improvement in patient care and an understanding of the NSW Health Code of Conduct.

7.Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
