Job Description

Workplace Status:

Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the candidate is expected to report to their assigned worksite three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Team:

The Enterprise Services and Software Development Platforms (ESSDP) organization is seeking a senior software developer for the Logistics with Enterprise Orchestration (LEO) team. ESSDP provides a broad set of technology products and services to the GM IT organization. The LEO team is pivotal to our ability to provide these products and services with optimized administration overhead.

The team develops day two self-service automation for systems administrators, automating activities such as patching, release management, application restarts, password rotations and other intricate orchestrations. The software engineer will collaborate with the team to develop, deploy, and improve admin automation features. They will work with a team of dedicated engineers and nurture a culture emphasizing integrity, innovation, forward-thinking, accountability, and inclusivity.

The ETS LEO team has already established an impressive portfolio of capabilities that have transformed IT, but it has just scratched the surface of what’s possible. We are looking for an engaged, high-energy team member with range of development experience to help carry the team forward as we work towards GM’s vision.

What will you do

  • Help make IT more efficient and secure by developing self-service automation interfaces for the LEO platform.
  • Lead the design and architecture of complex, large-scale cloud software systems or platforms.
  • Demonstrate coding excellence, adhering to best practices, and coding standards.
  • Design, develop, and deliver scalable microservices and appealing front ends.
  • Participate in Agile-based planning activities and work plan management to ensure appropriate prioritization of work.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, business, DevOps, and other engineering teams across the company.
  • Lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Implement best practices for monitoring, logging, and maintaining production systems.
  • Implement proactive measures to prevent and mitigate system failures.
  • Purposefully investigate, identify, and remediate software pertaining to code or solutions quality, security, and/or pattern/frameworks and software usability or end user related issues
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve system capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership to the engineering team. Mentor & support junior engineers by providing guidance, coaching and educational opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on proficiency in .NET and Java
  • Expertise in end-to-end applications hosted on Cloud Platforms and strong familiarity with Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry.
  • In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient within full stack software development
  • Good understanding and experience with CI/CD practices
  • Knowledge in both relational and non-relational DB and experience in Schema design.
  • Understanding of software engineering practices, design patterns, data structures and algorithms
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions.  
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
