Job Description
The Role
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite three (3) days a week at the Oshawa and/or Markham offices of General Motors of Canada Company.
In this position, reporting to GM Canada’s Head of Tax, you will be responsible for GM Canada’s income tax, transfer pricing, and property tax activities, including preparation of tax provisions and related analysis, preparation and review of income tax and related returns, tax research and advice to the business, preparation and review of transfer pricing documentation, managing tax audits and controversies, and special projects as they arise.
What You'll Do
Tax Accounting & Reporting
Prepares quarterly income tax provision and related journal entries, reconciliations, forecasts, and other deliverables supporting quarterly tax disclosures
Prepares annual tax provision & disclosures for GM Canada’s legal entity financial statements and annual provision-to-return reconciliation
Reviews property tax accounting entries, reconciliations, and forecasts prepared by tax analyst
Maintains strong internal control environment and process documentation
Liaises with internal and external auditors to complete internal control audits, quarterly reviews, and annual financial statement audits.
Income Tax and Transfer Pricing Compliance
Prepares and/or reviews working papers and supporting schedules for the annual income tax returns
Prepares and reviews annual transfer pricing documentation
Works with external advisors to support preparation of transfer pricing analyses and annual tax filings
Tax Audits & Controversy Management
Manages CRA audit process and works with other areas of the business to provide working papers, supporting documents, and explanations.
Reviews correspondence with tax authorities and determines appropriate response
Works with government auditors and external advisors to resolve income tax controversies
Liaises with external property tax advisors to obtain forecasts, review property tax valuations, and manage the appeals process as needed
Tax Research, Advice, & Legislative Changes
Monitors tax legislative changes from government and prepares related memos and communications to impacted stakeholders
Provides advice to business partners with respect to income tax matters, including taxable benefits,
Communicates income tax reporting requirements related to new system deployments or lines of business
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications
4+ years of finance experience required
CPA designation required
Proven ability to research technical accounting issues and create/maintain complex tax models
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - demonstrated ability to communicate with both tax and non-tax business partners and influence others to achieve company objectives.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects/deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of progressive tax experience required
MTax or CPA In-depth Tax Course
Experience with ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes)
