What you Will Do

The CNC Programmer/Machinist will be an active member of the machining manufacturing team at the Stryker Spine Headquarters in Leesburg, VA. The position is based on CNC Programming, set-up and operation of machining centers along with occasional use of detailed annual mills and lathes. On occasion, all around manufacturing fabrication may be required as projects will often cross between machining and fabrication team members as a shared effort. You will be required to follow medical device manufacturing procedures and guidelines while performing the additional responsibilities below:

  • Program complex geometry using G code and CAM software. Ex: Rotary, Surfacing, 4 and 5 Axis Milling Machines and/or Multi-Axis Lathes.
  • Interpret complex mechanical blueprints and 3D CAD Models for manufacturing specifications. 
  • Build, fabricate, or repair manufactured parts from verbal instructions,  
    blueprints and/or working drawings. 
  • Use and operate a variety of hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
  • Benchtop assembly fabrication and custom fitting.
  • Utilize various forms of precision inspection equipment (i.e. comparators, micrometers, calipers, gauging, etc.).
  • Perform In process Inspection on manufactured parts/assemblies. 
  • Repair, clean, adjust and/or perform preventive maintenance on  
    equipment, tools, or machinery, etc.  

What You Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent – required
    • Technical certification (Apprenticeship) or specialized trainings - preferred
  • 3+ years of direct related machine programming/operation experience – required
  • Hands-on experience with micrometers, calipers, dial and digital indicators, optical comparator, ring gauges, pin gauges, and thread gauges. – required
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 pounds. - required
  • Clear and concise communication skilled - Required
  • Experience with benchtop fabrication/assembly practices (i.e. fits, mechanics, burring, hand tools, etc.)
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5 M-1994 Geometric Tolerance 
  • Experience with principles, theories, and practices of machining Stainless Steels, Cobalt Chrome, Aluminum, and Plastics. 
  • Good understanding and proficient in the application of manufacturing processes and GD&T.
