Employment Type: Permanent, Part Time
Hours per week: 12 (0.3 FTE)

About the role:

We are looking for a Permanent Staff Specialist to join the Hospital in the Home team at St Vincents Hospital Sydney.

Duties include:

  • Reviewing patients in the Emergency Department, patients based in the Community, including RACFs and other Hospitals for direct admission to the HITH service, as well as SVH ward based patients for transfer to HITH for ongoing management of their presenting concern.
  • Leading the daily multidisciplinary patient clinical handover meeting, AMS/Infectious Diseases/HITH weekly case conference and weekly reviews of patient admitted under HITH specialty.
  • Promotion of HITH as an admitting option for admitted and Community based patients.
  • Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital. 
  • Promotion of and participation in research for the HITH Service.
  • Participation in teaching of medical and nursing staff.
  • Participation in Quality Improvement processes, including Morbidity and Mortality Meetings.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship with a relevant Speciality Colleague (i.e. RACP or ACEM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice relevant to a HITH service with extensive understanding and experience in the management of complex medical disorders commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise with demonstrated time management and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills
  • Demonstrate an interest in teaching and research and an involvement in continuous quality improvement commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment
