Job Description:

Position Title: Staff Specialist - Theranostics and Nuclear Medicine 
Employment Type: Temporary, Fixed term for 24 months
Hours per week: 0.2 FTE
Position Grade: Staff Specialist
Salary: As per the award
Enterprise Agreement: The Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Health Organisations’ Staff Specialist Agreement 2021

About the role:

Within the framework of the Mission, Vision, Values and Philosophy as well as the Policies of SVHS, and in collaboration with the Service Director to lead the staff, liaise with other staff, and assist in achieving optimal operation of the Theranostics and nuclear medicine Department, in the provision of clinical services, research and teaching.

The Staff Specialist has responsibility for service standards, patient throughput, continuing education, research, training of staff and students as well as liaison with key stakeholders and other relevant professional bodies - this includes:


•    Provide Theranostics and nuclear medicine services during normal working hours.
•    Report and validate imaging reports; make reports available in a timely manner (normally with in the same working day or 24 hours); communicate urgent reports appropriately.
•    Participate in teaching and research duties.
•    Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital.
•    Participation in overtime and on-call rosters.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and obtain a provider number from Medicare to practice as a specialist in Australia.
  • Possess either Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997.
  • Credentialed for PET reporting through the CJCT.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of practice in Nuclear medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated management ability in clinical service planning, and in the provision of a patient focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective clinical service with knowledge and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes including ability and commitment to undertake basic human resource management functions including performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels and ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.
