Job Description

This is a onsite Ergo position under the IE job profile.

  • Implement and co-administer the plant’s Ergonomics process with UAW partners as defined by the National UAW-GM Ergonomics Agreement and GM’s Workplace Safety System Performance Standard
  • Act as the subject matter expert in the field of Ergonomics, supporting launch, production trials, and productivity improvement initiatives, and provide ergonomic technical support to all plant functions/operations
  • Capture and interpret injury/illness data for all associated ergonomic/medical incidents
  • Conduct first level ergonomic risk analysis for both current and future states
  • Conduct, as appropriate, second level ergonomic risk analysis using specified tools for both current and future states
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with joint UAW ergonomic partners
  • Be the driving force in working with plant and product engineering teams to resolve current, product related issues that exceed ergonomic guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production personnel, etc. to identify ergonomic risks, develop solutions and drive issues to closure
  • Input issues into the GM Technical Ergonomic Database (TED) or associated systems, develop metrics and analyze trends
  • Lead and facilitate formal and informal injury reduction initiatives through data analysis, problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Conduct ergonomic related training and presentations as required
  • Drive innovation and exploration of new technologies, analysis tools, techniques, processes, and devices to reduce ergonomic risks and injuries
  • Actively participate in ergonomic activities associated with new product planning and launch
  • Work with and support corporate ergonomics activities
  • Manage all ergonomic issues to closure and coordinate follow-up through appropriate plant and engineering teams
  • Hold regular monthly meetings with plant medical and provide ergonomics technical support to all plant functions/operations
  • Apply General Motors Ergonomics Design Requirements, including those tied to CMA, LMS, containers, dollies, and POU racks
  • Provide recommendations for job modifications to meet ergonomic guidelines and monitor implementation
  • Provide regular reports out to the Plant Safety Review Boards (PSRB) and participate with Local Joint Health and Safety Committee (LJHSC)
  • Support remediation of ergo line balance concerns through review/evaluation of APS Ergonomic screening flags
  • Support the development and completion of the annual Ergonomic Business Plan Deployment (BPD)

  • Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience
  • 1+ years of experience using ergonomic analysis tools
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Industrial, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent level of leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members, the UAW and other stakeholders to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic manufacturing projects.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and/or programs is required.
  • High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills are required.
  • An ability to focus on and work towards planned targets, overcoming obstacles, setbacks and uncertainty, using appropriate processes.
  • Proactively take action to improve ability to deliver against existing goals.
  • Provide the team with insights and background behind goals and required action.
  • What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software and Digital Human Modeling is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions.

Additional Job Description

4 year bachelor degree

2 years experience in manufacturing, engineering, production, or ergonomics.

Leadership and some experience working with unions.
