Job Description

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Pontiac Metal Center Plant on a full-time basis.

The Role:

Pontiac Metal Center is the lead stamping site supporting GM’s vision of ZERO crashes, ZERO emissions, and ZERO congestion. All major sheet metal stamping provided to Factory Zero (Hummer EV, Origin EV & Silverado EV) and Orion Assembly (Bolt EV, Bolt EUV).

The Tool & Die Group Leader will lead day to day decision making and supervision of hourly Die room employees which work which involves the repair and maintenance of Sheet Metal Stamping Dies and equipment. Work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolution – as well as sharing and using lessons learned from peer groups. This role requires the ability to use independent discernment. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).

  • Supervise and plan for maintenance activities and projects

  • Diagnosis of Die equipment malfunctions

  • Effective use of personnel, materials and equipment

  • Implement safety and good housekeeping practices

  • Implement divisional and Corporate policies

  • Frequently contact and collaboration with others outside of the work group

  • Establish a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project

  • Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions

  • Keep abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise

  • Actively identify new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

  • Comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Technical bachelor’s degree or Technical Associates with equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of Die Making experience

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and Unigraphics

  • Knowledge of basic math, geometry and trigonometry

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex

  • Knowledge of mechanical concepts

  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required, motivate employees and elicit work output

  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use computer software
