Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Civil / Installation Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

About the Position

As part of Cross River Rail, a new world class ETCS signalling system will be delivered by a collaboration between Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, Queensland Rail and Hitachi Rail through the Sequence Alliance.

The Principal Civil / Installation Engineer will deliver and support all activities concerning the applicability of the installation design, as well as managing all required interfaces with the Civil work contractor, ensuring that the related design requirements are professionally delivered.

The installation design will bring together the requirements from all the technology design packages into a single integrated installation design.
 

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensure the delivery on time, budget, and quality of the assigned tasks.

  • Provide valuable technical advice to the Engineering Design Manager, ensuring that designs meet standards and maintainability expectations.

  • Expertly apply Civil design principles, adhering to industry standards and engineering best practices, to include detailed drawings, design reports, engineering calculations.

  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver comprehensive Civil design packages such as signalling & communications infrastructure, formation, earthworks, and drainage.

  • Coordinate the surveys in brown field projects - cable ways layout installation design.

  • Elaborate, propose, and control the project delivery budget in accordance with the company strategy.

  • Ensure efficiency through standardization of installation design procedures.

  • Optimize competences, workloads, and resources management according to Company and market trends.

  • Ensure capitalization and sharing of knowledge.

  • Manage internal Engineering discipline interface (comms and signalling).

  • Contribute to the assessment of risks and the establishment of effective controls.

  • Foster an environment that promotes continuous learning and skills enhancement of the team.

  • Ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.

Key knowledge and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering.

  • 8+ years of hands-on civil design experience.

  • Proven experience in successfully managing civil design projects in Rail.

    • RPEQ (Civil/Installation) mandatory

    • Familiar with installation principals within a railway environment.

    • An understanding of the rail safety act and the regulatory environment.

  • Ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Ability to work and lead in a multicultural environment.

  • Strong project management skills to execute initiatives successfully.

  • Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.

  • Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decision-making.

  • Ability to form and build key stakeholder relationships.
