The Disney Theatrical Group Labor Relations team is looking for a Manager, Labor Relations to provide critical support to the Labor Relations team. The candidate will be highly organized, adept at time management, anticipate issues and develop creative solutions, and balancing competing priorities frequently with tight deadlines. The Manager, Labor Relations will be self-motivated, highly strategic, and thrive in a cooperative, team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with and under the supervision of the Director of Labor Relations, the Manager, Labor Relations supports grievance meetings and arbitration hearings by:
    • performing arbitration research
    • preparing exhibits
    • helping interview witnesses
    • occasionally serving as chair and/or co-chair
    • processing settlement requests
  • The Manager, Labor Relations will manage key components of collective bargaining negotiations by:
    • responding to union information requests
    • maintaining logs of Union and Company proposals and counter proposals
    • making presentations
    • leading caucus sessions
    • taking negotiation session notes
    • coordinating with Company business units with regards to proposals
    • coordinating negotiations logistics
    • drafting memoranda of agreement and full contract,
    • liaising with Company business units to implement new contract terms.
  • Acts as the company point of contact for investigations and responses to governmental agencies (e.g. NLRB, EEOC and other federal, state or local agencies), using strong written/verbal communication, fact finding and analytical skills.
  • Serves on and/or chairs labor-management committees on various topics such as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Health & Safety, Pipeline Initiatives
  • Performs legal, general and factual research for the department
  • Completes monthly, bi-annual, and annual required reporting to unions and Taft Hartley Funds
  • Responds to Taft Hartley Fund audit requests and serves as trustee on Taft-Hartley plans
  • Assists with the start-up process for new productions, including: production launch, staffing requisitions, review need for special personal service/at will agreements
  • Drafts and/or processes various union employment contracts (including template agreements) and paperwork.
  • General electronic filing of contracts and correspondence
  • General scheduling of meetings and calls with managers and union representatives regarding collective bargaining administration
  • Responds to payroll inquiries
  • Maintains confidential electronic and physical files, both personnel and departmental; inputs data and maintains electronic databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Business Administration, Labor Relations, Human Resources, or related field/experience
  • 4+ years of related experience within Labor Relations, Human Resources, law firm, in-house or equivalent (e.g. negotiations preparation, bargaining, implementation and administration of contracts).
  • Proven understanding and current knowledge of labor and employment laws including, but not limited to, NLRA, Title VII, EEO, ADA, and FMLA; and associated labor and employment laws.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and nuanced understanding of the communication needs of different audiences and represent the Company in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and savvy strategic business thinking in a complex, multi-dimensional, progressive environment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with both internal and external audiences
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and attention to detail, proven by the ability to exercise appropriate judgment in executing tasks without supervision.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines/deliverables

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • JD or equivalent experience
  • Masters’ Degree in Labor Relations

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $114,500.00-$157,400.00 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
