The job of the Colorist is known as “color grading:” the manipulation of color in a shot for artistic or stylistic reasons. Colorists work with filmmakers to establish the visual color palette and improve a narrative by influencing viewers’ emotions through color. Colorists can contribute to these looks by changing the brightness and color levels using specialty computer systems and software.
The ideal candidate must be accustomed to working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment under tight deadlines. They should be proactive, organized, and diligent and be comfortable working with editorial and engineering teams, leading and supporting our filmmakers and studio executives to create the best projects possible. This is a union role with local 700.
Responsibilities:
Define technical approach for managing color throughout the project from pre-production and photography through final delivery
Research technical equipment (cameras, niche, and unique tools, etc) to achieve the right coloring scheme for each project
Use specialized computer software to deliver high-level quality color schemes for filmmakers
Set up color process workflows for all stages of production
Build new coloring processes to streamline current production workflows
Troubleshoot color session projects with high-technical equipment
Manipulate color, shot by shot, to achieve the filmmaker’s creative intent.
Handle Coloring budgets
Assist filmmakers and visual effects teams in defining the look of each project
Lead all aspects of quality control to ensure the team maintains a high level of technical quality and consistency for each project
Basic Qualifications:
7+ Years film/TV post-production experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Solid understanding of the principles of film, video, and data production
Diligent and exhibit good attention to detail
In-depth technical knowledge of cameras, codecs, formats, and file types
DaVinci Resolve and or other color correction software experience is required
