Position Overview:

Collins Aerospace is currently seeking qualified candidates for principal level engineers in our Military Avionics & Helicopters Flight Management and Controls department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an AGILE environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of software only products. As a Principal Software Engineer in this organization, you will be involved in the development of state-of-the-art software.

Products supported with this role include:

CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions - Our signature products for Military Avionics and Helicopters as part of the Collins Integrated Avionics Systems, fielded on thousands of aircraft today, at this moment. Specific capabilities include FMS (Flight Management Systems), Flight Director, and Flight Controls.

Must be a commutable distance to Cedar Rapids, IA to work an onsite schedule.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. Candidate will have the option to choose a 9/80 schedule on this role if preferred.

What YOU will do:

  • Performs analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. 

  • Manages configuration process, performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Decomposes customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements, and generates verification criteria and plans for the requirements

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Proficiency with embedded C/C++ 

  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Python) 

  • Experience with debugging and root cause investigations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SVN version control systems 

  • Development experience Agile methodologies and DevSecOps

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
