This temporary position is for a part time Radar Hardware System Engineer who will perform design, development, integration, test, and defect resolution for critical next generation sensors. Frequent ad hoc duties include: participating in design discussions and reviews, producing design artifacts, characterizing system performance, working with suppliers to design, develop, and qualify new systems, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and functioning as a valuable member of the team.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Perform simulation and analysis using Matlab, Python, or similar tools for system performance in areas such as target detection and estimation, clutter suppression, Doppler sensing, resource optimization, etc.
  • Operate several radar systems located primarily in MA, but also around the US
  • Provide innovative design proposals for system enhancement, algorithm development, and optimization in support of key performance parameters
  • Implement software-based system changes (when applicable) to fulfill Customer needs
  • Collaborate in an agile development environment with multiple engineering disciplines internally, with suppliers, and with Customers to develop and deliver system enhancements for multiple stakeholders

This position is currently designated as fully remote. However, the successful candidate will be required to work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. Territories).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESA)
  • System-level hardware and software integration experience with demonstrated problem solving results
  • Demonstrated experience developing innovative techniques for identification and extraction of features in a large data set using signal processing or machine learning techniques
  • Experience with performing simulation and analysis using Matlab, Python, or other similar tools and languages
  • Proficiency working in a lab environment and operating RF and standard test equipment including spectrum and network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency working in a C++ and Java software development environment, experience with configuration management tools such as Git/Bitbucket, and ability to work in a Linux environment
  • Direct experience with design and product development of software-defined systems
  • Working knowledge of real-time computing and embedded processing
  • Experience with analyzing air traffic and weather radar key performance parameters
  • Experience collaborating in agile development with systems and software engineering disciplines, suppliers, and Customers to develop and deliver safety critical air traffic surveillance systems

This is a temporary position of an undetermined length. 

The salary range for this role is 56.72 – 118.27/ hr; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training and key skills.
