The Rotary Wing Platform Systems department is seeking a talented Senior Engineering Manager to lead the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Flight Test Platform Systesm team.  

The primary focus will be providing leadership and guidance to a team of Avionics Systems and Flight Test Engineers focused on full lifecycle development with our Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) from initial development through final flight test, with specific focus on USCG development efforts and Flight Testing with our full Rotary Wing customer base. The Ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the CAAS system, Agile development processes, pursuit/order/capture, customer interface, and the ability to work in a cross-functional organization on multiple concurrent execution efforts. 

Responsibilities in this position include:

  • Providing technical direction - candidate must be able to direct a team applying sound engineering principles related to avionics system development 

  • Project management - candidate must be able to guide team members on the management of scope, schedule, and budget for engineering design activities; candidate will be directly involved in project management and execution, including Earned Value and Risk Management 

  • Process management - candidate must be able to guide team members on the utilization of design and development processes, military avionics certification, and assure that the design activities are consistent with the product lifecycle development for new and existing products through internal guidance and adherence to external development processes outlined by our customers 

  • Performing bids and proposals - candidate must be able to lead, review, and provide guidance to team members on bid and proposal activities 

  • Personnel administration - candidates must be able to perform hiring, performance assessment, management of personnel issues, and create a highly engaged and motivated team. 

Qualifications/Experience Needed: 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Must have demonstrated experience in a project engineering/project lead role, with cost and schedule responsibility and strong background in Earned Value Management. Demonstrated experience as an Agile Product Owner, Release Train Engineering or Scrum Master. 

  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a professional team environment. 

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while balancing priorities and schedules. 

  • Must be a self-starter and have strong analytical skills Key skills for success. 

  • Strong collaboration skills that facilitate effective communication with a team of Systems engineers to make sound engineering decisions. 

  • Must communicate technical issues, risks, and status in written and oral forms. 

  • Make objective and data-driven decisions promptly that are in the team and program's best interest. 

  • Effective time management skills to meet challenging timelines. 

  • Excellent problem-solving, data analysis, and critical thinking skills. 

  • A positive attitude is adaptable to change, enjoys learning new technologies, and contributes to a positive work environment. 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Experience leading engineering projects. 

  • Experience with the Fusion, Flight 2, or CAAS Avionics Architectures. 

  • Familiarity with Agile development. 

  • Experience with Atlassian suite of tools, including JIRA.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
