Applied Signal Technology: WHO WE ARE

This is an onsite postion based in our AnnapolisJunction, MD. location.

Section Manager is responsible for first line management of a group of 5-10 software engineers who have varying levels of experience and diverse domain expertise. The successful candidate will manage engineers who are involved with development of deliverable software/systems/products over the entire engineering development lifecycle. Although the section staff will typically work on independent projects, the Section Manager will foster collaboration and cross-fertilization of ideas and new technologies within the group. He/she will also contribute directly to engineering development as a task lead, technical lead, or individual contributor. The Section Manager’s responsibilities will occupy ~15% of time, technical responsibilities ~85% of time.

The specific responsibilities and duties include:

Plan and track staff’s task assignments

Support staff with career development planning

Assist with strengthening core engineering skills and discipline, and developing domain knowledge and expertise across the RAST Engineering organization

Prepare staff performance evaluations

Assist in planning for and addressing software and cyber engineering staffing needs

Assist and support recruiting and interviewing activities

Assist with ensuring staff’s compliance with company policies/procedures

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

Typically requires minimum 8+ years software/system/product development experience in one of these areas: telecommunications, data communications, wireless communications, communications protocols, networking protocols, cyber security, digital signal processing, SIGINT or COMINT.

Experience as a task lead or a technical lead for a team

Experience in all phases of the engineering development lifecycle

Strong engineering development discipline and process advocacy

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Active DoD Top Secret/SCI or higher clearance is required

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 6 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

Security Clearance: 

Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Must have or be capable of obtaining and maintaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Practical experience in all phases of the software/system/product development lifecycle

Product development experience in one or more of these areas: telecommunications, data communications, wireless communications, communications protocols, networking protocols, cyber security, digital signal processing, SIGINT and/or COMINT

Coaching, teaching and/or mentoring skills

Strong emotional intelligence skills (i.e. self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, relationship management)

Experience in creation or improvement of engineering development processes

Excellent track record for working effectively and collaboratively in a diverse team environment

Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills

Understands basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching and process execution.

The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
