Opportunity is available in the Portland, Oregon metro area for a talented, motivated Sr. Systems Engineer to design, develop, and test a variety of products including Head-Up Guidance Systems, Enhanced Vision Systems, and innovative new display products geared toward the military, air transport and corporate jet markets. With an emphasis on product quality, we are developing systems which bring improved value to the flight deck through enhanced situational awareness, lower operating minima, and added safety benefits. From being the Head-Up Display provider for the Boeing Dreamliner to the Head-Up Display provider for the Business Jets, Collins Aerospace continues to build trust every day.

Our Systems Engineering team is responsible for head-up guidance, enhanced vision system requirement definition, including the definition of interfaces with other aircraft systems, the definition of desired functionality (including display formats and behaviors), and the verification and validation of the correct implementation of these defined characteristics, as well as LRU system definition and qualification. Systems Engineering is also involved in the system certification primarily with FAA, EASA and Transport Canada.

We are searching for an experienced engineer who can step is as a Systems Lead for an ongoing project with the desire to learn, grow, and lead a talented team of engineers. The Systems Lead Engineer would engage in all phases of a program life cycle, including bidding, planning and execution. This candidate should be organized, have great communication skills and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have an unwavering positive attitude, be highly responsive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and strive to perform high-quality work proactively and efficiently. This person will consistently demonstrate professionalism in their interactions with all levels of the organization and will routinely go above and beyond expectations in performing their work. They will have strong project execution, leadership, and critical thinking skills. They will be passionate about performing data analysis for creating accurate bids and crafting attractive proposals. The candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of prioritizing multiple

tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Estimate, track, own and report project technical, cost and schedule aspects for assigned scope of work.

  • Perform analysis at all levels of the system including concept, design, system architecture, modeling, integration, test, installation, operation, and maintenance for the head-up guidance system and / or imaging systems or components.

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, validation, verification and cost and risk analysis

  • Manages configuration process, perform functional analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.

  • Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements

  • Generate verification criteria and plans for system level requirements

  • Identify and recommend process, system, and product improvements to enhance performance and improve efficiency.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • Must have experience with systems engineering development processes

  • Knowledge of ARP4754A

  • Knowledge of avionics systems development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile

  • Avionics Experience Preferred

  • Knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems

  • Experience with JAMA requirements management software and Confluence tool

  • Experience with DOORs requirements management software

  • Understanding of the Civil Certification process

  • Understanding of the applicable CFRs and ACs for Part 25 aircraft

  • Basic knowledge of DO-178B/C, DO-254, and DO-160G is a plus

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
