Want to shape the future of Avionics?  This position is for an experienced professional to fill the Aircraft Autonomy Visionary on the Avionics Advanced Technology team.  This group supports the Avionics Strategic Business Unit in researching, maturing, and transitioning technologies that enable advanced capabilities and operations in both commercial and military aviation spaces. The team is cross-functional and composed of systems, software, hardware, and human factors engineers with a variety of expertise.  Areas of near-term focus include flight deck design and systems automation with an emphasis on enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

As an Aircraft Autonomy Visionary, you will be part of a highly motivated and extremely innovative team supporting the development of rapid prototypes and proof of concepts for internal and external demonstrations.  This is a unique position where every day will be a little bit different with new challenges and problems to be solved.  This will allow you to use your diverse set of skills and push you to continually to learn new ones.  The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of autonomous vehicle technology, a background in aviation, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of innovation.

This position is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Working remote is an option for the right candidate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and technical leadership to a team of engineers and researchers working on autonomy-related projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, development, and implement advanced autonomy concepts.
  • Develop and manage project plans, roadmaps, and schedules for autonomy test bed projects.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Guide the development of research prototypes to quickly demonstrate technology concepts
  • Foster a culture of innovation and excellence in technical execution.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, guiding the team in adopting best practices.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, including experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Autonomous Vehicle (Air, Land, or Sea) experience
  • Experience in Aviation
  • Strong Background in Systems Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pilot or Flight Operations Experience
  • Avionics systems development, integration, or certification experience
  • Experience with sensor fusion
  • Experience with computer vison
  • Experience architecting systems and software
  • Familiarity with Linux, Python, ROS, C++, C, Git, Docker, AWS
  • Familiarity with Agile, SCRUM, and Jira

This role is also eligible for the Re-Empower Program. The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
