The Advanced Materials and Process Group have an exciting role for a Materials and Process Engineer to join our team to help advance best in class materials research, innovative manufacturing process technologies and develop next generation products and sustainable solutions for our Interiors business unit.

This role will be a key contributor to our technology development programs in a research environment and provide technical expertise and support in advanced materials, design & simulation, and manufacturing processes. You will also have a unique opportunity to explore new ways to create, integrate and deliver sustainable technology to the business, as well as the opportunity to assist in the development of proposals, roadmaps, technology related processes, and a key contributor to our sustainability strategy through life cycle assessment analysis, and our technology strategy for the Interiors Advanced Technology & Laboratories (ATL) team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, researches, and develops advanced materials and related manufacturing processes for use in the development of next gen structures, systems, and subsystems and sustainable products and solutions.
  • Manage projects and project task activities which include project plan development, material processing and testing, materials design-simulation-optimization, data collection and analysis, and communication with comprehensive technical reports.
  • Design, perform and coordinate material, manufacturing technology and advanced process development projects within our labs, or with company and external partners.
  • Demonstrate ability to solve problems and exercise creativity to develop and/or implement practical solutions.
  • Contribute to planning activities by providing technology recommendations, proposals, and input to roadmaps to support the needs for future research & development.
  • Support, guide & interact with key stakeholders and groups across Collins Aerospace (including US, EU & Asia teams), research institutions, and supply chain partners to develop sustainable materials, processes and full life cycle assessment methods


Basic Qualifications & Experience:  

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Engineering or a related field of study
  • Project management, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills including technical writing skills, with ability to efficiently use MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Powerpoint
  • You are eager to learn and hands-on apply new technologies and production techniques for advanced materials processing of polymers, plastics, and fiber reinforced polymer (thermoset and/or thermoplastic) composite materials

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:  

  • An Advanced Degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Engineering or related field of study
  • Experimental and theoretical skills in polymers and fiber reinforced polymer (thermoset and/or thermoplastic) composite materials
  • Experience and knowledge with advanced manufacturing processes including process development and optimization, digital engineering & automated / robotic manufacturing for advanced composite materials
  • Knowledge with processing, characterization, testing and modelling of composite materials
  • Experience with collaborating within industry-academia support programs across global locations and/or securing funding for innovative R&D and technology programs
