Part of the Walt Disney Company's Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment, Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music commercialization and marketing: recorded music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally, and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming, and consumer products.

Job Summary:

The Manager, Data Analytics is responsible for Disney Music Group’s (DMG) data, reporting and quantitative research, and serves as the data analytics partner to cross-functional teams, providing insights to inform planning and decisions across the DMG business areas

To support these goals, the role will develop a deep understanding of user behaviors within music marketing, discovery, and consumptions channels

The right person for this role has a deep curiosity and aptitude in data with applied knowledge of measurement and statistics. The role will be expected to translate business questions into analytical and technical methodologies, driving results through analysis of large transaction level datasets. The role will need to communicate effectively, distilling insights into concise and compelling data-driven stories, and socialize broadly with audiences across levels and functions.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Drive pragmatic approaches to solving complex business problems through data creation, analysis, statistical modeling. Develop new features integrating data across internal and external data sources. Build and apply segmentation, regression, and classification models to derive insights
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and new business opportunities by developing analytical models and frameworks to understand potential, performance drivers, and impact of environmental factors
  • Support data-informed business strategies by applying data mining, quantitative analysis, and data presentation to surface and elevate key themes, answering business questions across varied business areas.
  • Extract and develop data for analysis. Acquire, organize, cleanse and manipulate complex, large-scale data from multiple disparate sources utilizing tools such as PySpark and advance SQL to interact with the data
  • Apply supervised or unsupervised learning techniques, such as linear and logistic regression, decision trees, or k-means clustering to derive, validate, and quantify conclusions from the data
  • Be the partner for cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities and understand performance, diving into data to drive meaningful and actionable insights
  • Contribute to company priorities through ongoing reporting and analysis to inform business, product, marketing, and sales decisions
  • Conduct content performance and audience analysis for products releases. Develop and track key metrics to measure success
  • Perform statistical analysis such as KPI deep dives, behavioral clustering, user journey analytics. Develop analytical pipelines for automated, scalable, repeatable and integrated analysis using modern big data architectures in data ecosystems such as Databricks, Snowflake, Google Big Query
  • Partner with Engineering and Product teams to execute on data projects
  • Contribute to solution discovery, design, build and QA process. Collaborate on the data models, database schema/table, ETL/ELT data pipelines and validation parameters
  • Lead and mentor a team member, setting priorities to maximize impact in the organization

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years data analytics experience
  • 2+ years management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field.  
  • Experience developing statistical models and analyses in an industry setting for business use cases. Applied knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques
  • Expertise manipulating large, transaction level data sets and interpreting data trends from multiple disparate data sources
  • Strong hands-on experience developing sophisticated analytical solutions using scripting tools (Python/R)
  • Mastery in advanced SQL, large-scale data and numerical computing languages (PySpark)
  • Experience data mining in distributed systems (Spark/Databricks)
  • Proficient in data exploration and visualization tools (Tableau/Looker)
  • Experience developing analytical software that scale analyses
  • Experience working with media performance data
  • Experience working with data in the entertainment industry
  • Strong experience documenting data requirements, rules and, assumptions
  • Experience communicating analytical concepts to a wide range of audiences
  • Passion for building clear, concise, and meaningful metrics
  • Proven track record of leveraging data to deliver business value and presenting data-driven insights to business audiences
  • Experience influencing and partnering with stakeholders across the organization
  • Strong time management with ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of broader objectives
  • Track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, and delivering results
  • Keen interest in music and the music business
  • Strong familiarity with music streaming services (Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, YouTube), social media platforms (TikTok, FB/Instagram) and emerging technologies (digital assistants/voice)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading data-centric projects across a wide cross-functional landscape
  • Experience building, managing and motivating teams in strategic support functions
  • Master’s degree in an analytical field including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $136,038 to $182,490 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
