Job Description:

Reporting to a senior level role in the Disney entertainment television production org. The Vice President of Production Shared Services is responsible for leading a shared services organization to support the Disney Entertainment production teams.  The centralized services are provided to shows produced by ABC Signature, 20th Television, Searchlight TV, FX, Freeform, and ONYX Collective. They also service third-party productions for Disney’s networks and streaming platforms and run a business externally with other third-party studios/shows.

This position will be accountable for overall operation of the backlot functions, management of the individual P&Ls for Costume, Warehouse and Transportation, and consultation with production executives on services needed for their projects. This position is a direct report to the Head of Production for Disney Entertainment Television and will be responsible for managing a team of leaders within the department.

The ideal candidate is an experienced operator and people leader with a background in production.  The role provides the opportunity to develop strategies for effective cost management on our television projects, monetizing our costume, set inventory, and vehicle assets.  Additionally, this role will oversee the team of consultants who provides environmental and health & safety frameworks to our shows.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direction, management, and oversight to the leaders of Set Inventory, Asset Management, Transportation, Costume Warehouse, and Health, Safety and Environmental Departments and their teams
  • Oversee and manage the individual P&Ls within the backlot functions, including setting internal/external pricing strategies
  • Handle oversight, storage, cataloging and rental of the set inventory and costume assets of DET productions
  • Provide cost-effective transfer of assets to/from remote productions with consultation on whether/how to dispose of, sell, or store the items.  Ensure compliance with interstate and international shipping regulations.
  • Ensure operational excellence and identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Manage relationships with Production Leadership and other internal stakeholders
  • Evaluate and prioritize capital investment
  • Understand external trends to assess new and expand services
  • Build flexible business models that can support internal demand or pivot to third party customers
  • Provide a variety of essential services in support of Production Executives, Post Executives, and Television Production Creative Executives, as well as the cast and crew of our productions

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of production and/or operational leadership experience, with deep knowledge of the television production industry.
  • Experience managing direct reports at the executive level.
  • Experience managing Backlot Service Delivery or another shared services organization
  • Advanced financial and business acumen; prior experience managing a P&L and/or evaluating requests for capital investment
  • Experience designing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensuring service delivery meets and exceeds agreed upon levels
  • Strong executive presence and relationship management particularly among Production, Creative and Business leaders
  • Strong understanding of TV and/or Film Production as well as trends with regards to production techniques, filming locations, cost management, etc.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to Burbank, CA (role onsite up-to 5 days a week)
  • Must have working transportation as role will require visiting multiple sites locally.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, problem solve, and make decisions leveraging data.
  • Experience utilizing/managing large database systems to organize and maintain high volume of information.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent working experience.

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $203,000.00 to $279,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
