About the Role & Program

KTRK-TV (ABC13) is an ABC owned television station (OTV) located in Houston, Texas. ABC13, Houston’s news leader, is one of the most technically advanced television stations in the country! We are champions of innovation and are at the forefront of the changing media landscape. Our offices and studios are located in the West University area.

What You Will Do

The internship program is designed to provide you with an on-site educational experience that complements your academic studies. You will have an opportunity to participate in developmental programming and contribute to daily operations of a major market television station. As part of our team, you will gain firsthand experience in a broadcast technology environment!

As the KTRK-TV (ABC13) Broadcast Technology/IT Intern, you may:

• Network, deploy and troubleshoot computer hardware and software

• Work on preventative maintenance, broadcast automation systems, and IP transmission systems

• Provide resolution and troubleshooting for help desk requests

• Install systems for a variety of technology at the station

• Work on remote productions such as the Houston Marathon, Houston Rodeo Parade and others

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Previous academic or work experience in television, technology and/or IT processes, troubleshooting and/or problem solving

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Operating Systems

• High attention to detail and experience multitasking in a fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications  

• Major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Networking, System Administration, Engineering, Radio/Television/Film, or related field

• Experience in basic computer building, imaging and troubleshooting

• Previous experience in Help Desk support

• Knowledge and understanding of Information Technology, virtual/cloud computing, and/or the media industry

• Familiarity with network devices such as switches, routers, and/or firewalls

• Familiarity with Microsoft Server Operating System

• Familiarity with broadcast television technical systems such as routers, encoders, storage systems, automation systems, and video transport systems

Education

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship

• Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year or recently graduated within the past 6 months preferred

Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program. 

• Must possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information

• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

• Program length-- The approximate dates of this internship are January 2024 through early June 2024 ​

• Work details-- Must be fully available to work 25 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor and could include nights, weekends and holidays)

• Housing-- Must provide own housing for the duration internship program​ in the Houston, Texas area

• Transportation-- Must have reliable transportation to/from work​
