In this role, the Data Engineer (DE) will be working with the GCR and Worldwide Team to continuously evolve the development and improvements of data strategies and solutions for ingesting, processing, integrating, optimizing and persisting data by using one or more query languages; schema definition languages and scripting languages. The work scope covers designing, implementing, and operating stable, scalable, low cost solutions to flow data from production systems into the data warehouse and into end-user facing applications. This will include using technology which incorporating software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals and data storage principles to solve problems and handle data in accordance with Amazon policies. The DE will understand the data platform maintenance characteristics, runtime properties, and dependencies of the team’s data solutions and underlying system infrastructure which he/she would clearly document all solutions to ensure ease of use and maintainability by others.
The successful candidate must be able to roll-up his/her sleeves, and work directly with the dataset/data warehouse. He/she will be passionate about their work, detail-oriented, analytical, and have excellent problem-solving abilities. He/she will be and expert at working with large data sets and the technical tools needed to work with them. He/she will have superb communication and customer-relationship skills, outstanding analytic insight, and be a passionate advocate for their customers to other internal parties. Active collaboration with leadership in AWS Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence, Finance, Marketing, and etc will be crucial to the effective execution of the responsibilities. He/she will drive towards simple, scalable solutions to difficult problems, have excellent project-management skills, and be able to communicate complex analytical results, both written and verbally, in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

Key job responsibilities
· Create, develop and own the data warehouse environment used for the management of the AWS GCR (Great China Region) business
· Work with business customers, data engineers, software developers, and machine learning scientists to design and enhance data infrastructure to support the growth of AWS.
· Work closely with data engineers and business owners to provide clean data sources required for analytics and reporting.
· Influence and enable effective decision making at the leadership level by retrieving and aggregating data from multiple sources and compiling it into digestible and actionable forms.
· Design automated solutions for recurrent reporting (daily/weekly/monthly); in-depth analysis databases and data control processes.
· Improve tools, processes, scale existing solutions, create new solutions as required based on stakeholder needs
· Lead GCR wide initiatives across the Operations group and be an active regional participant on this team

Basic Qualifications:

- 1+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with one or more query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)
- Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.
