Job Title
Tax & Law Quality Manager/ Senior Manager

 

In this pivotal role, you will be a key member of the Quality team supporting the Tax & Law Service Line with a focus on EY Law Ireland. This role provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain experience of the separate stand-alone law firm EY Law Ireland. You will have a key role in design and implementation of processes to ensure compliance with risk and quality in accordance with the Law Society of Ireland regulations. This will also involve monitoring compliance with procedures which support the firm in complying with its quality obligations.

 
Principal Responsibilities:

 

  • Act as a local risk management subject matter expert to provide client handling staff with general risk guidance, resolutions to risk issues, support to comply with relevant risk management policies and support to use mandated tools and processes.  
  • Share best practice knowledge on risk management.
  • Assist with identifying any deficiencies in the business controls and work with Quality & Risk Management (Q&RM) and EY Law Leadership to address the issues and implement the necessary changes.
  • Undertaking compliance and quality testing.
  • Acting as liaison with LSRA and other internal and external reviewers as required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Analysis and resolution of quality and risk issues, consulting with other quality and risk subject matter experts (e.g. legal, claims, data protection etc.), as necessary.
  • Receiving and dealing with queries from within the firm on independence matters both personal and scope of services. Dealing with these queries will involve working closely with the Independence team in central Q&RM.
  • Leading and assisting with regulatory projects.
  • Assisting with monitoring programs.
  • Supporting Internal Quality Review programmes including planning, participating and following up on improvement plans.
  • Design and Deliver training on relevant policies, procedures to EY Law Ireland engagement teams.
  • Responding to any other priorities and initiatives of the EY Law Ireland Managing Partner.
  • Respond to other ad-hoc risk management and compliance issues as needed.
  • Maintain a high-level understanding of the business and structure of EY Law Ireland included a detailed understanding of the strategy and operations relating to the law practice 
  • Point of contact for the LSRA 
  • Maintain and promote awareness of wider regulatory requirements (i.e.EU  Mandatory Disclosure Reporting)
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory framework to ensure an ability to translate the requirements of Law Society obligations and exercise judgement in determining what constitutes compliance at EY Law Ireland
  • Ensure oversight of the use of the Firms Client Account and payments in line with both Internal and External regulations and policy
  • Ensure an appropriate framework and systems are in place to facilitate and document compliance with Law Society obligations.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to evidence compliance with obligations
  • Manage all SRA regulatory returns and information requirements to ensure accurate information is collated and submitted on a timely basis
  • Ensure the training, competency and supervision framework meets law society requirements such that individuals have the appropriate skills and expertise for their individual role
  • Build and maintain collegiate relationships with law practice leaders and key risk and governance professionals and teams across EY including the conflicts and CDD teams, financial crime, and GCO.
  • Ensure concerns about regulatory compliance are brought to the attention of senior law leaders and other leadership risk professionals.

Key Competencies & Experience:

 

  • Relevant work experience, Practicing Certificate or Law Firm experience preferred. 
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of client confidentiality and data protection legislation, regulation and best practice, as it pertains to Solicitors Practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to interact with various levels of firm management and staff.
  • Strong computer applications skills & general proficiency in IT systems, intermediate excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Keen focus on improving processes and ways of working. 
  • Strong team player.
  • The ability to interact with various levels of firm management and staff.
