Job Description

Central focus to the organization regarding quality for defined program across the entire development process, through manufacturing, and into the field. Key responsibilities include:

- Perform early issue identification, tracking and resolution to ensure segment leadership.

- Provide clear and timely communication to Quality management relative to quality issues.

- Lead launch and current product problem solving activities.

- Deploy quality deliverables according to planned development timing.

- Work with the product team to identify and gather critical status updates for Quality reviews.

- Facilitate Quality Review meetings and integrity of presentation materials.

- Support Program Execution Team (PET) with quality analysis information.

- Help Facilitate Program team Pre-PIT / CPIT meetings.

- Provide detailed analysis on every issue to champions for resolution and aggressively approach issues including warranty claims / CTF / CVEP / DTC / TAC / JDP / etc.

- Analyze, project and track warranty and Customer survey information.

- Support the development of the global quality planning process and templates.

- Support Quality Deep Dives / Sector Reviews / Quality Councils.

- Complete retrofit requests and support special quality studies.

- Create and champion relationships across multiple functions and regions

Additional Job Description

I. Background Information:

Position Title: Quality Technical Support Engineer, Premium Import

Function: GMPI, GM China Quality Department

This role supports the Program Quality Manager (PQM) to ensure GMPI new program Captured Test Fleet (CTF), Customer Experience Confirmation Ride (CxCR) and other activities are well executed, product vehicles can be shipped for sale with high quality performance.

II. Areas of Responsibility:

  • Primary responsibility as Quality Technical Support Engineer is to champion the problem solving of issues found in all quality activities during launch and field early warning, ensure MVBS vehicles can be delivered with high quality:
  • Work with cross function team to prepare for planned CTF & CxCR events including, vehicles, test devices, software update, checking list and other necessary supporting resources.
  • Monitor GMPI new program CTF execution status, to confirm road test issues based on technical point of view, support to return failure part to source region for analysis per home room requirement.
  • Finish the first 4 diamonds analysis of CTF issues, input issues captured in CTF and CVCR into PRTS, support for root cause analysis, countermeasure development and verification, as well as break point set up.
  • Participate into GMPI new program CVCR, work with cross function team to identify potential customer complains.
  • Support PQM to summarize all high risky issues identified in all quality activities during launch (including CTF, PDI, GCA, CVCR, etc..), evaluate these issues’ impact to MVBS vehicles, champion for vehicle retrofit plan development and execution, to ensure MVBS vehicles meet shipping quality requirement.
  • Support PQM for GMPI field early warning (SOS+6M), participate into QLM meeting and cooperate with warranty engineer for field issue containments development, push source region for long term solution development.
  • Support warranty engineer for GMPI field issue analysis after SOS+6M.

  • Secondary responsibility to ensure quality testing vehicles are updated to latest engineering released (especially software related):
  • To understand GMPI programs based on technical study, support PQM to design the CTF test routing and procedure, ensuring all quality issues can be identified during launch.
  • Finish the VDR (Vehicle Data Recorder) device configuration deployment on CTF & CxCR vehicles with the cooperation with Engineering and IT team, to ensure vehicle data can be collected properly during test.
  • Study GMPI field performance and capture lessons learned for GMPI new program continuous improvement.
  • Support PQM to develop China regional quality specific requirement based on issues found in launch and in field, to follow Tether process for future new program improvement.
  • Support for China market benchmark study, especially on EV new start-ups.
  • Work with JV company for architecture sharing issues problem solving support each other.

III. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Knowledge:

Well-developed automotive industry experience in Engineering, Quality, Service or Manufacturing related fields.

Familiar with vehicles structure and working principles, good at quality tools usage such as 7 diamonds, 5 phase, Red X, DMAIC, FMEA, etc., understand vehicle develop process and production launch process, experience in new program quality activities (like fleet test, product continuous improvement), basic knowledge of vehicle audit (GCA), field issue analysis (Warranty), external customer satisfaction survey (IQS, Compass).

  • Skills: 

Good at vehicle driving and perceptual issue identification.

Good presentation and communication skills (verbal & written).

Ability to work within cross-functional teams to achieve program quality goals, ability to operate globally with regional counterparts to execute programs from global architectures, ability to obtain and provide data in a timely manner to drive quality improvements.

  • Experience:

Vehicle Development, Product Engineering, Quality Engineering.

  • Education: 

Bachelor of Science in Engineering
