Job Description

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: The position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility, or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of engineers responsible for developing, integrating, and testing of Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) controllers and software. You will work cross-functionally with multiple teams to deliver products that support GM’s vision of a future with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion. The SDV Testing Lab Operations Co-Op student will support, operate, benchmark, and enhance the software test bench hardware, software and their associated operating environment. You will participate in test bench building, deployment, and troubleshooting with other software/test/validation engineers!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support integrating and configuring the different modules to make the test bench fully functional

  • Support deployments, operations, and enhancements of bench hardware and software

  • Develop scripts and codes to enhance test automation tools and enablers

  • Conduct testing of prototype software (simulation, bench, and in-vehicle)

  • Support system level (hardware and software) testing and troubleshooting

  • Apply design thinking principles, participate in design reviews, and make recommendations and proposals based on results

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree (3rd and 4th year students but will consider qualified 2nd year students with EcoCAR, or SAE project experience), or Master's degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and for 8-month term (2 consecutive semesters) starting May 2024 

  • Basic electrical, software, and control systems knowledge

  • Knowledge of hardware and software integration

  • Ethernet networking and distributed computing system development

  • Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills

  • Highly adaptable and able to work independently and in a team environment

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Knowledge of Python and C++

  • Experience with automated software testing in SIL or HIL environments

  • Experience with test and simulation software such as Robot Framework, CANoe, Vehicle Spy, INCA, Controldesk, Carsim, and ViRes

  • Knowledge of serial data communications Ethernet (Preferred), CAN, or LIN

  • Experience with Linux or QNX OS/file system 

  • Exposure to CI/CD methodologies
