Job Description

Work Arrangement:

Remote: The position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.

The Role:

You will own initiatives, brainstorm ideas, rollout projects, develop metrics, measure success, and continuously improve programs sought at supporting GM’s sustainability strategy and industry leading ESG standards. The role involves balancing several initiatives and projects, therefore time management is key in pivoting between tasks and priorities. You will work to connect GM’s Zero/Zero/Zero mission to our ESG reporting and sustainability strategy by working closely with the ESG reporting and disclosure team, and our internal multi-functional partners. A key component of this role is to develop collaborative relationships within Sustainable Workplaces and ensure alignment with various business units such as Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Communications, Legal, Controllership, Engineering, and Design. ESG reporting and sustainability strategy is the focus of the role but social responsibility, equity, and the human element must also be incorporated into the overall plan to ensure a broad approach.

This role will provide the opportunity to work with various internal business units and teams as well as external partners to represent General Motors on key stakeholder engagements. These reports, statements, policies, and disclosures inform investors, employees and our customers about the company’s progress, risk management, sustainability, and social responsibility. Work will include performing benchmarking and analysis of ratings, rankings, and reports as well as collaboration with the Sustainable Workplaces communications team on showcasing GM’s sustainability efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate opportunities to support and enhance ESG reporting and sustainable strategy initiatives and procedures

  • Provide benchmarking and a roadmap strategy to address ESG reporting opportunities

  • Investigate and support the creation and submission of ESG ratings, rankings, and frameworks

  • Support the development of, and provide insight into, GM’s 2024+ corporate sustainability disclosures including the sustainability report

  • Drive collaboration with multi-functional working groups to ensure new disclosures are accurate and completed on time

  • Analyze sustainability metrics and data, and provide recommendations and continuous improvements based on robust methodology and trends

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuit of a Master's degree in one of the following areas: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability

  • Enrolled in a qualifying Ontario co‑operative education, or internship program

  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and for 16-month term (4 consecutive semesters) starting May 2024

  • Experience in sustainability projects, employee engagement, and/or consulting

  • Have a valid Full Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province licence

  • Ability to travel within Canada and the US

  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience

  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed

  • Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Fundamental digital literacy including understanding of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable provincial laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, or Nova Scotia. 

    • The salary range for this role is $4,700-$5,000 per month. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
