As part of GM’s Global Manufacturing Engineering Team, ME GPS (Global Propulsion System) is the regional resource pool supporting on design, develop, procure, and implement efficient manufacturing systems through standardized process to produce world-class propulsion systems across globe. Our deliverables spread across the Global Propulsion Systems Development Process (GPDP) cycle starting from Program Kick Off to SORP. 

Who you are: 

We are looking for a candidate who is excited to travel around the globe to interface and work with multi-cultural teams in GPS plants to plan and install machining lines, to support productivity and quality improvements.

Job Summary

The "individual contributor/technical expert" level process engineer to Lead new product program, responsible for developing manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of Crankshaft, Camshaft and Connecting Rod.  Work is being performed in GM Technical Center India, Bangalore office as well as plant where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the following activities related to Rotating & Reciprocating area.

  • Manufacturing process definition,

  • Preparing SORs (Statement of Requirements) for new and major programs.

  • Evaluation of supplier quotations.

  • Completion of PFMEA.

  • Human factors consideration and risk assessment.

  • Efficient material flow.

  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, delivery of all the process and equipment documentation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.

  • Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.

  • Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.

  • Work may involve providing technical direction to and coordination of less experienced process engineers.

  • Launch wall updates and report outs along with countermeasures.

  • Tracking the budget allocation and preparing expenditure forecasts.

  • Working with the launch team to get concurrence on the process direction, taking the suggestions inputs and evaluating cost vs benefit.

  • Responsible for organizing parts for run off, raising MCRs as needed.

  • Ensuring program delivery on time, and under budget.

  • Achieve process excellence metrics like ME Launch scorecard, 100% First Time Quality, 100% On time delivery through standardized work, and continuous process improvement.

  • Capture and share lessons learned within the team and with program manager.

  • Participate in global meetings and report out regional issues, lessons learned and project progress updates if required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of Automotive Vehicle / Propulsions System processes and product launch

  • Good knowledge of Teamcenter, NX, Vismockup, AutoCAD, MS Project and MS Office applications.

  • Sound understanding of GPDP, Quality Chain & PFMEA.

  • Sound knowledge of Project Management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile)

  • Sound knowledge of GM-GMS Principles and Workplace safety systems.

  • Good knowledge of process parameters (speeds & feeds), cutting tools / fluids and applications.

Skills

  • Proficient in CNC Programming which includes NX CAD / CAM

  • Part Print reading and GD&T

  • Good verbal and written communication

  • Interpersonal, Problem solving & Analytical skills

  • Basic Quality tools

  • Basic coding skills on process automation and business intelligence tools (C/C++, Java, VB script, Python, Power BI etc.,)

Abilities

  • Ability to design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements

  • Ability to implement and coach Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles

  • Ability to work with intercultural, diverse & multi-disciplinary teams to achieve enterprise goals

  • Ability to manage multiple projects / assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results

  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/ self-directed.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial / Automobile Engineering

Experience

  • 5+ years of Experience in Automobile / Mechanical allied Engineering Industry
