Job Description

What you will do?

- You will analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes

- You will propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in assigned area

- Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area

- You will keep regular contact with partners outside the work group

- You will provide direction to small group of technical employees

- You may evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment

- The GPS ME Controls Engineer shall provide strong support throughout the different phases of the GM New & Major projects, these include:  Statement of Requirements, Technical Review of Proposals, Design and Build Review, Machine Runoff, Installation at GM Site, Debug and Startup, Ramp-up support.

- The Controls Engineer follows the lead of the GPS Manufacturing Engineer. 

Along with the GPS ME, the Controls Engineer is responsible for the timely delivery of the OEM Machinery & Equipment and for ensuring a Flawless Launch.  Also, that the M&E fulfill GM’s safety and productivity requirements.

- The 7 level Sr. Controls Engineer differentiates from the 6 level Controls Engineer for any or both of the following: a) functional/technical skills, b) leadership and managerial skills. 

- The 7 level Sr. Controls Lead is usually responsible for one whole GPS manufacturing plant (e.g. Engine, Transmission, Foundry and Battery).

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge:  Controls & Automation, Electrical/Electronics, Information Systems and Networks, Robotics, Vision and Laser Systems, Fluid Power, Safety Norms and Regulations, etc.
  • Skills:  Programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Computerized Numerical Controls (CNC), Robots and other machine control devices and systems.
  • Experience/Education:  Bachelor’s Degree on Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Sciences, Information Systems, or other related areas.
  • Recommended previous GM jobs:  Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering.
