Job Description

Work Arrangement:

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, at minimum


The Role:

The Customer Care and Aftersales (CCA) Field Action Technical Writer is responsible for writing, editing, and validating service procedures and labor times for field action bulletins. This position involves working with Product Investigators, Execution Leads, Engineering, Service Engineering, Brand Quality, and service technicians in the Service Learning Center (SLC).

What You'll Do:

  • Write, edit and validate service procedures for field action bulletins, include Safety, FMVSS Noncompliance, Product Emission, Customer Satisfaction, Service Update and Special Coverage bulletins.

  • Schedule service time in the Service Learning Center (SLC) shop to review SFI issues with Product Investigators and Engineering. Provide service repair recommendations/evaluations for Product Investigations and Engineering.

  • Review parts requirements. Order parts for service repairs performed in the SLC shop.

  • Assist Global Vehicle Safety Product Investigators to acquire field parts associated with open investigations (as needed).

  • Provide labor time estimates to Product Investigators for OIR.

  • Establish labor time that are not published in SI.

  • Address TAC inquiries about service procedure information.

  • Respond to Dealer inquiries about field action bulletins.

  • Complete Risk Assessments for every field action service procedure.

  • Complete photography and video requirements.

  • Provide image-editing and video editing software and SI training to new personnel in TAC and TSB groups.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Strong automotive technical knowledge (e.g., ASE certification, dealership technician experience, automotive technology or engineering degree, automotive technology certificate, ASEP Program graduate)

  • Strong written communication skills (e.g., experience writing service procedures, degree in technical communication, journalism, or English)

  • Ability to work optimally cross-functionally and cross-culturally

  • Great teammate with excellent organization and communication skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree Automotive Technology or relevant automotive experience.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Knowledge and understanding of GM product improvement related functions

  • Authoring capability in the General Motors Global Service Authoring (GSA) system

  • Knowledge and understanding of General Motors Aftersales Engineering systems and processes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, Access, Power BI, etc.)

  • Work experience in Service Engineering, the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), the Customer Assistance Center (CAC), Labor Time, Dealership, or OEM Parts.
