Job Description

We are looking for a Life Cycle Assessment researcher to join our growing Sustainability team.

As a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) researcher, you will be responsible for conducting assessments of environmental issues across the full spectrum of Amazon businesses and evaluating the sustainability impacts across the value chain. The ideal candidate will have industry experience modeling complex systems, developing LCAs and emission factors (EFs), collecting and analyzing data, and reporting results to leaders through visualizations and metrics. The candidate should be comfortable working with imperfect data, and quantifying and identifying sources of uncertainty.

The successful candidate must have strong math skills and the ability to apply systems thinking to complex, fast moving problems. The candidate must have strong working-knowledge of scientific methods and international standards (GHG Protocol, ISO), with experience using Ecoinvent, GaBi, and USEEIO databases. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior business leaders, but will act as a Subject Matter Expert for all LCA-related analyses at Amazon, including research design, data collection, modeling, documentation, interpretation, and validation.

Key job responsibilities
Develop LCA-related research projects through all stages: ideation, data collection, modeling, data analysis, interpretation, documentation, validation, and reporting;

Build and run LCA models and tools in accordance with standards and regulatory requirements;

Create and maintain EFs;

Develop reports and metrics which distill complex data into actionable insights;

Respond to time critical questions from multiple business teams;

Professionally communicate to business leaders.

Basic Qualifications:

- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
- Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
- Experience with experimental design
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with agile development
- Experience working with cross-functional teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
