EduCativ
Keele University is situated on an estate with extensive woods, lakes, and parkland, formerly owned by the Sneyd family. The Sneyd's came into possession of the Keele estate in the mid-16th century. Before the Sneyds, the area was owned by the Knights Templar, a medieval Military Order. The first Keele Hall was built in 1580, and it was rebuilt in 1860. The Hall is a significant conference, wedding and banqueting venue and has Grade II listing from English Heritage for its architectural importance. The University itself was founded as the University College of North Staffordshire in 1949 and received its Charter as the University of Keele in 1962. Everything is on your doorstep at Keele, with all the most essential services and facilities gathered together at the center of campus. Moreover, because our student population is quite small, there is a great sense of community. Our self-contained campus is home to our accommodation, lots of restaurants and cafés, the Students' Union, a health center, all the teaching (except for some health courses) and the following: Besides our three campus shops and fantastic Students' Union shop and post office, Keele has a small high street with a newsagent's, a Costa Coffee, a Blackwell's bookshop, a Well Pharmacy, and a Santander bank. Santander branch details: Josie Humphreys, University Relationship Branch Manager, Santander UK plc, Student Union Building, Keele, Staffordshire, ST5 5BJ. Tel: 05511 482163 Fax: 01782 631575Every days, different traders sell their wares inside and outside the Students' Union – great for DVDs, CDs, books, posters, make-up, crafts and more. Once a week, there is a farmers' market outside the Students' Union, where you can buy fresh produce. Alternatively, please take one of our student allotments and grow your own! We have two libraries: one on campus, open 24/7 during semesters, and the other at the Royal Stoke University Hospital for our healthcare students. Both offer free Wi-Fi and a choice of study spaces. We offer IT support and advice centers plus a laptop loan scheme and clinic. You will have 24/7 access to computers, scanners, and high-speed color printers in the Library. There is free Wi-Fi across campus, including every study bedroom, and at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The Keele Learning Environment (KLE) provides an online portal for enhanced course content, submitting your work online, and group study facilities like chat rooms and messaging. Our interdenominational chapel provides a focus on different styles of Christian worship. The Islamic Centre offers space for Muslim worship, and the chaplaincy service will be happy to help students of all faiths and none. The KeeleSU radio station, KUBE Radio, is run by students for students, broadcasting 24/7 during semesters. Listen to the shows or get involved! Our large, purpose-built nursery is at the heart of campus. It is registered with Social Services and Ofsted. Check out our Students' Union or what goes on at night at Keele. Our SU was voted fourth best students' union in the UK for nightlife by which?, who said: "Expect star-studded events at Keele." So you do not need us to tell you how good it is! Keele has fabulous indoor and outdoor sporting and leisure facilities, with more to do than shake a lacrosse stick. From fencing to dancing, football to squash, you will be able to exercise your body just as much as your mind. There are over 100 sports clubs and societies to choose from! All work and no play make Jack and Jane rather dull so that students can make the most of a rich and varied arts program. There are exhibitions, music, poetry, performances, and much more throughout the year. Keele will provide a high-quality educational experience for students shaped by outstanding research, contributing positively to social, environmental, and economic agendas locally, nationally, and internationally. All incoming overseas students can be mentored by a current Keele student to help them settle into life on campus. All programs (except Medicine, Nursing & Pharmacy) have the option for single-semester exchange and the International Year. Medicine & Nursing have international placement modules. Keele students can go on an exchange to one of 40 different countries across Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, or Australia. At Keele, we pride ourselves in our friendly and supportive community with a genuine sense of inclusiveness. The work we do does not recognize national boundaries and is all the better for that. Therefore, we are fully committed to ensuring that Keele remains the welcoming community for people from every nation that it has always been, regardless of national or local political movements. In February 2015, the University Council approved the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan, which had been developed over the previous year following consultations with staff, students, the senior management team, and members of the Council. As we look ahead to 2020, our key priorities are well-established and well-understood by our community and stakeholder groups, who have assisted us in preparing our next Strategic Plan. Our strategic course set in 2010 remains at the heart of the strategy. Building upon our successes since that time, Keele beyond 2015 will be a University characterized by 'aspiration and ambition' – an aspirational destination for students and staff, and ambitious and aspirational in itself. We will be a leading campus-based university that stands out due to our unique community, world-leading research, and broad-based education that produces graduates who have a genuinely positive impact across the globe. Our research will be transformational in higher education and across society more broadly, and we will be internationally recognized for our professionalism, collegiality, and environmental sustainability. We are committed to making a difference in society by providing innovative, high-quality education for students from all backgrounds and by undertaking world-leading research that transforms understanding and brings benefits to society, communities, and individuals.
