The Cebu Institute of Medicine has largely benefited and has become what it is now from the previous administrations' excellent leadership. We have started another academic year. As always, we will focus on continuing the Culture of Excellence and maintaining the momentum by concentrating on maintaining the national recognition we have had in our endeavors. We select each new entering class with the intent of ensuring that when we train tomorrow's doctors, they will be well-prepared to practice their chosen specialties to meet the needs of the people they are going to serve
Our students and faculty are unmatched anywhere in the country, and we are very proud that all our graduates continue to excel in the medical licensure examinations. From 2012 to 2015, the Philippine Board of Medicine recognized C.I.M. as the top-performing medical school in the country based on its performance of the medical licensure examinations with its 100% passing rate and topping the examinations. Such recognition was done during the oath-taking of the new doctors for those years.
C.I.M. has established a long history of providing excellent doctors to the national and the international health care workforce and positively impact the future of health care. With the dedicated input of the administration, our faculty, staff, and students, we will continue to aggressively develop new areas of endeavor in medical education that will consistently address the changing paradigms in health status and healthcare delivery in our country. As one of the country's leading medical schools, we dedicate ourselves to advancing medical knowledge to produce physicians with a healing heart.
We are diverse in our outlook, and our approaches and the tradition of innovation that has marked the school is as vibrant as ever. We have started the Team-Based Learning approach this academic year to complement our P.B.L. methodology and the pedagogical approaches to the Outcomes Based Education has been intensified.
On the same note, the establishment of the Masters in Science in Professional Health Education (MSPHed) Course with the University of the Philippine, National Teachers Training Council (UP-NTTC) was started this academic year. Twenty–one (21) C.I.M. faculty under the scholarship of C.I.M. is enrolled in the course. We could say that we are beginning another chapter in the life of C.I.M. that has been, and will continue to be, like no other – continuous improvement and looking into the future of medical education. Through the years, we have been making significant progress, specifically in improving our school facilities. Thanks to our committed alumni here and abroad. They, the alumni, will continually play in the future direction of our institution. Together, with the alumni, faculty, and students, we are looking forward to an even brighter future for C.I.M.
This college was conceived in altruism and the ideals of service. It will be conducted and managed in the best tradition and practice of an efficient medical institution. The ultimate success of programs of medical education depends upon the rising degree to which students develop lasting habits of profound observation, rational thought, enthusiastic study, judicious action, and respect for those values personal dignity, honesty, dependability industry, resourcefulness, and courage without which any learning is sterile. The selection of students for admission is the Admissions Committee's responsibility, which shall evaluate with care and fairness the real qualification of each applicant based on academic records, NMAT, accomplished application form, and personal interview.
The Cebu Institute of Medicine is known to produce graduates who are excellent physicians and leaders in the community. Lectures and small group discussions allow us to deepen our medical knowledge. However, through organizations where medical students hone their talents, give back to the community, and strengthen the bonds between fellow students. Student organizations are avenues for growth and self-expression, and they allow students to gain skills and knowledge that can only be learned outside of the classroom. Each of the organizations provides students with their activities and opportunities, but they all contribute in their ways in following C.I.M.'s mission of producing physicians with a heart.
The Student Enrichment Office (SEO) hopes to accompany all C.I.M. students in their journey toward becoming competent, efficient, and skilled doctors with a heart. As the students hurdle four years of academic and character formation at C.I.M., the SEO institutes programs that would help the students develop in them the will to excel, the passion for serving, and the heart to heal.
The school has a medical library, conference rooms, three amphitheaters that can accommodate 120 students. It has well-furnished laboratories for basic subjects, well-ventilated classrooms, and a social hall occupying the entire wing of the building's fifth floor. The C.I.M. -Clinical Epidemiology Unit was established to provide medical students, interns, residents-in-training, and practicing physicians the necessary guidance appropriate for the respective research activities in the field of medicine.
