Founded in 1930, Trevor Day School is a Nursery through Grade 12 independent day school that expertly facilitates inquiry-based learning to drive deep comprehension and a love for learning. Students at Trevor acquire a lasting understanding of the subjects they study by engaging in investigations, activities, and highly contextualized discussions and lessons.

Students' inquiry takes center stage in a Trevor classroom, which allows them to learn more and develop an appreciation of learning and critical habits of mind they can take with them out into the world. When you meet our talented students, observe our devoted teachers, and interact with our accomplished graduates, the power of a Trevor education is evident and profound.

Trevor enrolls 800 students in a coeducational setting on two campuses on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side of Manhattan. Trevor's rigorous college preparatory curriculum is designed to confer academic mastery while students develop the self-confidence, original perspective, and perseverance to thrive in any idea-rich arena. Perceptive and flexible teachers, highly collaborative team-building spaces, an inclusive and grounded family culture, and daily opportunities for interpersonal and intellectual interaction transform Trevor students into proactive agents of their learning.

Here at Trevor, children are at the center of all we do. A coeducational, college preparatory, Nursery through Grade 12-day school in Manhattan, Trevor's approach to educating children is uniquely innovative, resulting in students who balance a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum with their happiness, achievement, and engagement. Rigor and happiness are at the core of our students' experiences.

Throughout our 88-year history, we have built a great tradition of nurturing the talents and passions of every child we serve. Trevor works with parents to cultivate their children's inherent gifts—thereby developing in them a deep intellectual foundation. We do so by committing ourselves to inquiry-based learning, guided by devoted teachers who model collaboration, intellectual passion, and adaptability.

This core dedication to children is tangibly supported by the school's physical and philosophical architectures. Within student-centered common spaces, teachers and students collaborate dynamically together. They navigate a traditional curriculum that leads to academic mastery, innovative thinking, and a global perspective. Our LEED Gold-certified Middle and Upper School campus on East 95th Street, and our renovated Lower School on West 88th Street, are optimal educational environments that support our school's mission to place students at the center of their learning. This mission is further exemplified through signature Trevor elements, including differentiated learning, a rich advisory program, and family conferences.

Our goal is to challenge students to make meaning of what they are learning and guide them to become self-advocating and critical thinkers. At Trevor, students make connections across disciplines and become innovative problem-solvers. We empower students to take charge of their learning and encourage them to ask the tough questions that lead to deep understanding.

An independent, Nursery through Grade 12 coeducational day school, Trevor Day School educates college-bound students to achieve academic and personal excellence in an inquiry-driven, idea-rich community. Trevor celebrates the diversity of thought, experiences, and culture that promotes compassion, collaboration, courage, and creativity. He develops in children recognition of their unique potential as lifelong learners and leaders who act as responsible global citizens in our world. Trevor Day School will graduate students who:

  • Face challenges with self-confidence and a willingness to risk failure
  • Approach new ideas and experiences openly
  • Think flexibly in problem-solving
  • Adopt innovative technologies and methodologies readily
  • Assess and synthesize information critically
  • Communicate with respect for content, form, and audience
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Act responsibly as global citizens
  • Value lifelong learning

At Trevor Day School, we offer an independent education from nursery school through 12th grade. For almost 90 years, we have provided students with an engaging, rigorous, and innovative learning environment. From early childhood through high school, Trevor classes are fueled by a dynamic curriculum, students' curiosity, and the guidance of expert teachers.

At the heart of every great school are dynamic academics. What are the concepts and lessons we remember for five years, ten years, even 50 years after graduation? They are the ones that are taught to us in thoughtful and compelling ways. They are the ones that stick.

Using Central Park as a laboratory to explore the question "What is a common?" Learning about the biochemistry and history of the Hudson River from the deck of a sailboat. Taking a solar system study out of the textbook and placing it squarely in the hands of a student. Mastering the structure of a sonnet not only through the study of Shakespeare but through modern interpretations, including a student's poetry. These are the ideas that stick.

Trevor utilizes inquiry-based learning methodologies to impart a rigorous, college-prep curriculum. Not only are Trevor students prepared for each grade level and challenging college-level work, but they have also learned how to learn in the process. Critical-thinking skills, problem-solving know-how, and an ability to reason and debate. This is the kind of education that sticks.
