For more than a century, the University of Maine at Presque Isle has helped students find their path to great professional careers. We provide 1,400 traditional and non-traditional students with life-changing opportunities in a caring, small-university environment. UMPI combines liberal arts and selected professional programs and serves as a cultural and educational resource for the entire region. As a public institution, UMPI operates under the supervision of publicly appointed officials and is supported primarily by available funds. UMPI is one of seven autonomous campuses within the University of Maine System.
The University has adopted a learning focus that encompasses everything we do–from work in the classroom to student life to the career preparation efforts we offer. It’s called Personalized Learning, and it gives you a voice and choice in your education while providing the opportunities you need to develop the skills and self-confidence to succeed in life.
Our campus sits on 150 acres, surrounded by the rolling hills and potato fields of northern Maine. The city of Presque Isle offers opportunities for both summer and winter outdoor sports and is the primary commercial center of the region. Combining clean air, clear skies, and safe, small-town life next door to the Northern Maine Woods also boasts blue-ribbon schools, a regional airport, and easy access to nearby Canada.
Students come from all Maine and the U.S., and several foreign countries, including Canada, to complete their undergraduate and graduate work. The University strives to be the region’s premier learning institution while stimulating cultural and economic development in Aroostook County and the State of Maine. The University serves as an educational and cultural center for the area and is host to many state and regional conferences. Its facilities are utilized for lectures, programs, concerts, dance performances, exhibits, and plays that benefit the entire region.
We will lead the State of Maine in delivering an affordable and accessible education with an innovative spirit and commitment to excellence. We provide exceptional experiences for learners of all ages to become informed leaders, engaged citizens, and prepared professionals within their communities and beyond.
In recognition of the unique talents and interests of its entering and returning students, the University of Maine at Presque Isle offers several merit-based awards, scholarships, and grants. Most do not require students to show financial need. Additionally, there are scholarship opportunities, such as the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative available regionally, that incoming students may want to explore.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle understands that earning a degree is a precious endeavor. We are committed to offering you opportunities to offset the costs through our Student Academic Scholarship Program. You will be rewarded for your hard work in academic areas. The awards below are geared toward traditional students coming right out of high school and students transferring from other colleges and universities. These scholarships are awarded at the time of acceptance.
Our campus has so much to offer for those who live, work, and learn here. As you pursue your course of study at UMPI in preparation for your future, you’ll also eat, sleep, make friends, work out, have fun, cope with new challenges, and try new things. UMPI offers you an enriching and supporting opportunities that extend your education beyond the classroom. Living on campus and participating in athletics and intramurals, student employment, advising and counseling, student activities, and clubs and organizations are essential college life programs that create leadership, service, and personal growth experiences.
UMPI also provides other physical resources–like our health and wellness center Gentile Hall (which features a pool, fitness center, elevated track, and climbing wall) and our very own disc golf course–as well as institutional learning opportunities available at places like our Center for Innovative Learning.
